The worst rejection...

...is when you reject yourself, allowing your feelings to cause you to question your ability, your reason, your self worth.

What do you do with that rejection? I make a list.

I stick it on a wall over my desktop. It spurs me on.

I generally pray for guidance, "Is this a waste of my time? Should I even be doing this?"

Having no answer, I press on hoping I'm doing the right thing.

I don't doubt I can write, at least not in the general sense of thinking I'm a talentless hack. Rather, my doubts are always wondering if I wasted years barking up the wrong tree, and if I should have just thrown this project in the garbage and focused on something else.

I usually reread my "right to write" certificate then push on.

I call a friend, crib about my life, and bore her to tears until she says, "Get over it!"
