eamon - "i dont want you back":

See, I dont know why I liked you so much
I gave you all, of my trust
I told you, I loved you, now thats all down the drain
Ya put me through pain, I wanna let u know how I feel

**** what I said it dont mean **** now
**** the presents might as well throw em out
**** all those kisses, they didn't mean jack
**** you, you hoe, I dont want you back

**** what I said it dont mean **** now
**** the presents might as well throw em out
**** all those kisses they didn't mean jack
**** you, you hoe, I dont want you back

You thought, you could
Keep this **** from me, yeah
Ya burnt *****, I heard the story
Ya played me, ya even gave him head
Now ya askin for me back
Ya just another act, look elsewhere
Cuz ya done with me

**** what I said it dont mean **** now
**** the presents might as well throw em out
**** all those kisses they didn't mean jack
**** you, you hoe, I dont want you back

**** what I said it dont mean **** now
**** the presents might as well throw em out
**** all those kisses they didn't mean jack
**** you, you hoe, I dont want you back

Ya questioned, did I care
You could ask anyone, I even said
Ya were my great one
Now its, over, but I do admit I'm sad.
It hurts real bad, I cant sweat that, cuz I loved a hoe

**** what I said it dont mean **** now
**** the presents might as well throw em out
**** all those kisses they didn't mean jack
**** you, you hoe, I dont want you back

Anyway, the actual Greatest Love Song Of All Time goes something like this...

*cough, cough...ahrrrammm, eck-cough*

Baby I'm amazed at the way you love me all the time
Maybe I'm afraid of the way I love you
Baby I'm amazed at the the way you pulled me out of time
Hung me on a line
Maybe I'm amazed at the way I really need you

Baby I'm a man and maybe I'm a lonely man
Who's in the middle of something
That he dosen't really understand
Babe I'm a man and maybe you're the only woman
Who could ever help me
Baby won't you help to me understand

Baby I'm a man and maybe I'm a lonely man
Who's in the middle of something
That he dosen't really understand
Babe I'm a man and maybe you're the only woman
Who could ever help me
Baby won't you help me understand

Baby I'm amazed at the way you're with me all the time
Maybe I'm afraid of the way I leave you
Baby I'm amazed at the way you help me sing my song
You right me when I'm wrong
Maybe I'm amazed at the way I really need you...

And that's all I have to say about that.

Of course, the best love song to know by heart, and the most useful love song at that, is the one I sing to Trish on a semi-nightly basis, but it works for you too, Bravo...

We could sail away
Or catch a freight train
Or a rocketship into outer space
Nothin' left to do
Too many things were said
To ever make it feel
Like yesterday did

Seasons must change
Separate paths, separate ways
If we blame it on anything
Let's blame it on the rain

I knew it all along
I'd have to write this song
Too young to fall in love
Guess we knew it all along

That's alright, that's okay
We were walkin' through some youth
Smilin' through some pain
That's alright, that's okay
Let's turn the page My friends called today
Down from L.A.
They were shooting pool all night
Sleeping half the day
They said I could crash
If I could find my own way
I told them you were leaving
On a bus to go away

That's alright, that's okay
We were two kids in love
Trying to find our way
Thats's alright, that's okay
Held our dreams in our hands
Let our minds run away
That's alright, that's okay
We were walkin' through some youth
Smilin' through some pain
That's alright, let's turn the page
And remember what I say girl
And it goes this way

Girl, don't go away mad
Girl, just go away...

Under the Bridge, Red Hot Chili Peppers

Sometimes I feel
Like I don't have a partner
Sometimes I feel
Like my only friend
Is the city I live in
The city of Angels
Lonely as I am
Together we cry

I drive on her streets
'Cause she's my companion
I walk through her hills
'Cause she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds and
She kisses me windy and
I never worry
Now that is a lie

I don't ever wanna feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way
I don't ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all that way (yeah yeah yeah)

It's hard to believe
That there's nobody out there
It's hard to believe
That I'm all alone
At least I have her love
The city she loves me
Lonely as I am
Together we cry

I don't ever wanna feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way
I don't ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way (yeah yeah yeah)
Ooh no (no no yeah yeah)
Love me I say yeah yeah

Under the bridge downtown
Is where I drew some blood
Under the bridge downtown
I could not get enough
Under the bridge downtown
Forgot about my love
Under the bridge downtown
I gave my life away (yeah yeah yeah)
Ooh no (no no yeah yeah)
Here I stay yeah yeah...

Here's a Wilco that I really like.

I am Trying to Break Your Heart

I am an American aquarium drinker
I assassin down the avenue
I'm hiding out in the big city blinking
What was I thinking when I let go of you

Let's forget about the tongue-tied lightning
Let's undress just like cross-eyed strangers
This is not a joke so please stop smiling
What was I thinking when I said it didn't hurt

I want to glide through those brown eyes dreaming
Take you from the inside, baby hold on tight
You were so right when you said I've been drinking
What was I thinking when we said good night

I want to hold you in the Bible-black predawn
You're quite a quiet, domino, bury me now
Take off your band-aid 'cause I don't believe in touchdowns
What was I thinking when we said hello

I always thought that if I held you tightly
You'd always love me like you did back then
Then I fell asleep in the city kept blinking
What was I thinking when I let you back in

I am trying to break your heart
I am trying to break your heart
But still I'd be lying if I said it wasn't easy
I am trying to break your heart

Disposable Dixie cup drinker
I assassin down the avenue
I've been hiding out in the big city blinking
What was I thinking when I let go of you

(Loves you)

I'm the man who loves you

Bell Bottom Blues, baby!
Bell bottom blues, you made me cry.
I don’t want to lose this feeling.
And if I could choose a place to die
It would be in your arms.

Do you want to see me crawl across the floor to you?
Do you want to hear me beg you to take me back?
I’d gladly do it because
I don’t want to fade away.
Give me one more day, please.
I don’t want to fade away.
In your heart I want to stay.

It’s all wrong, but it’s all right.
The way that you treat me baby.
Once I was strong but I lost the fight.
You won’t find a better loser.

Chorus

Chorus

Bell bottom blues, don’t say goodbye.
I’m sure we’re gonna meet again,
And if we do, don’t you be surprised
If you find me with another lover.

Chorus

I don’t want to fade away.
Give me one more day please.
I don’t want to fade away.
In your heart I long to stay.

Bite me twice, Lorne. I know pretty much everybody. I worked in a record store from the time I was 7 until I was 11...I got paid in vinyl. I had everything going. I am tapped in.It burns you up, doesn't it? You know that I know that you know music.

But my teasing is interesting because much of the music you prefer was the music of the intellectual snobs in the 80's and early 90's. And to be fair, there is much music that we both love from that scene--Siouxsie and Berlin come to mind. Still, in those days, there was a great deal of contempt displayed for album rock from the seventies. Yet all these years later, what still shines through? ;)

Love Letters, the Boz Scaggs version because his voice makes me melt.

Love letters straight from your heart
Keep us so near while apart
I'm not alone in the night
When I can have all the love you write

I memorize every line
And I kiss the name that you sign
And, darling, then I read again right from the start
Love letters straight from your heart

I memorize every line
And I kiss the name that you sign
And, darling, then I read again right from the start
Love letters straight from your heart

Heh. And back to the love songs, how the heck could I forget...

I looked out this morning and the sun was gone
Turned on some music to start my day
I lost myself in a familiar song
I closed my eyes and I slipped away

Its more than a feeling, when I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
till I see marianne walk away
I see my marianne walkin away

So many people have come and gone
Their faces fade as the years go by
Yet I still recall as I wander on
As clear as the sun in the summer sky

Its more than a feeling, when I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
till I see marianne walk away
I see my marianne walkin away

When Im tired and thinking cold
I hide in my music, forget the day
And dream of a girl I used to know
I closed my eyes and she slipped away
She slipped awa y. she slipped away.

Its more than a feeling, when I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
till I see marianne walk away
I see my marianne walkin away...

Fine fine, back to love songs

The Everley Brothers, Let it Be Me

I bless the day I found you
I want to stay around you
And so I beg you
Let it be me

Don't take this heaven from one
If you must cling to someone
Now and forver
Let it be me

Each time we meet, love
I find complete love
Without your sweet, sweet love
What would life be?

So never leave me lonely
Tell me you'll love me only
And that you'll always
Let it be me

Each time we meet, love
I find complete love
Without your sweet, sweet love
What would life be?

So never leave me lonely
Tell me you'll love me only
And that you'll always
Let it be me

Now and forever
Let it be me

best love song....its impossible...i mean, how many kinds of love are there in the world...bitter-love...future-wife love...young-love...first-love...incestual love...regretful....helpless and knowing it...helpless and not knowing it....

bitter-love has got to be Goodbyes have been Said by Tuesday.

I'll keep digging these holes, because I get sick to my
stomachwhen I'm sick of myself, and you.So
I'm changing.And I will change again.So this
automatically means I don'tmean anything.And
this means I quit believing.

young-love could be 'lover, you should have come over' by jeff buckley:
broken down and hungry for your love with no way to feed it
Where are you tonight, child you know how much I need it
Too young to hold on and too old to just break free and run

and then there is 'she' by the great Charles Aznavour...awesome thread bravo

another one:

I remember finding out about you
Every day, my mind is all around you
Looking out from my lonely room, day after day
Bring it home, baby, make it soon
I give my love to you

I remember holding you while you sleep
Every day, I feel the tears that you weep
Looking out of my lonely gloom, day after day
Bring it home, baby, make it soon
I give my love to you

Or unrequited love

The Band, Makes No Difference

It makes no diff'rence where I turn
I can't get over you and the flame still burns
It makes no diff'rence, night or day
The shadow never seems to fade away

And the sun don't shine anymore
And the rains fall down on my door

Now there's no love
As true as the love
That dies untold
But the clouds never hung so low before

It makes no diff'rence how far I go
Like a scar the hurt will always show
It makes no diff'rence who I meet
They're just a face in the crowd
On a dead-end street
And the sun don't shine anymore
And the rains fall down on my door

These old love letters
Well, I just can't keep
'Cause like the gambler says
Read 'em and weep
And the dawn don't rescue me no more

Without your love I'm nothing at all
Like an empty hall it's a lonely fall
Since you've gone it's a losing battle
Stampeding cattle
They rattle the walls

And the sun don't shine anymore
And the rains fall down on my door

Well, I love you so much
It's all I can do
Just to keep myself from telling you
That I never felt so alone before

Don Henley did this for MTV Unplugged and Oh my God was it good. I always loved his voice. (and my wedding party danced to this song when Stew and I got married.)

Im gonna love you like nobodys loved you come rain or come shine
High as a mountain and deep as a river come rain or come shine
I guess when you met me it was just one of those things
But dont ever bet me cause Im gonna be true if you let me

Youre gonna love me like nobodys loved me come rain or come shine
Happy together unhappy together and wont it be fine?
Days may be cloudy or sunny
Were in or were out of the money

But Im with you always, Im with you rain or shine

Im gonna love you like nobodys loved you come rain or come shine
High as a mountain deep as a river come rain or come shine
I guess when you met me it was just one of those things
But dont ever bet me cause Im gonna be true if you let me

Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

I don't quite know
How to say
How I feel

Those three words
Are said too much
They're not enough

If I lay here
If I just lie here
Would you lay with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

Let's waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads

I need your grace
To remind me
To find my own

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lay with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

All that I am
All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see

I don't know where
Confused about how as well
Just know that these things will never change for us at all

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lay with me and just forget the world?

What's better, KTC: any album you care to name by The Smiths or The Cure or Boston's self-titled first album?

One of my all-time favorite love songs:

There are places I remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some have gone, and some remain.
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends, I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life, I've loved them all.

But of all these friends and lovers,
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new.
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them,
In my life, I love you more.

In my life, I love you more.

Greatest lovesong.

Oxymoron.

I am not now nor have I ever been in touch with my sensitive side.

I remember listening to that Boston album over and over again on the Camp Borden Air Force Base in Northern Ontario...the winter after it came out. My cousin was an insane Boston fan...I mean, insane. We listened to that album in a deep grey-green cloud of smoke. It was quite mystifying really. Good call, Rob...but because of circumstances I still have to go with the Cure for the band that most resembled my moodswings of the early 80s. That music was close to me.;)

You beat me to the point. That point being: personal events often create associations in our minds with certain music, and music from the most temultuous years of our lives is often remembered fondly.

But at the end of the day, truly great music is truly great music. That album by Boston will continue to be made and sold, because it is truly great.

Dammit. Forgot another one:

I'm gonna take a freight train
Down at the station
I don't care where it goes
Gonna climb me a mountain
The highest mountain, Lord,
Gonna jump off, nobody gonna know
Can't you see, can't you see, what that woman, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see, what that woman been doin' to me
I'm gonna find me
A hole in the wall
Gona crawl inside and die
That lady
Mean ol' woman Lord
Done told me goodbye
Can't you see, can't you see, what that woman she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see, what that woman been doin' to me
Gonna buy me a ticket now
As far as I can
Ain't never comin' back
Grab me Southbound
All the way to Georgia now
Til the train run out of track
Can't you see, can't you see, what that woman, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see, what that woman been doin' to me
