Hi! We are again in need of a person who will volunteer to help fill up our calendar.

It's here: http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/calendar.php?

Anyone who has at least 50 posts can currently add events to the calendar, but I'd really like to have one (or two) people who actively seek out things to add to it. For example:

Contest deadlines
Writers' conferences
Book expos
Reading period deadlines for literary mags
Submission deadlines for anthologies
Special events like the start of NaNoWriMo
Chatroom events at AW
Deadlines to submit to Miss Snark's Crapometer

There are lots of places to find this info-- around the boards, for one thing (especially in the Networking section), in our Absolute Write Newsletter's "announcements" section and the Absolute Markets Newsletter's "Contests Corner," on publishers' websites, etc.

This is not a moderator position.

Please let me know here if you're interested.

Even if you don't take the position, everyone, please remember that you CAN add to the calendar (assuming you've made at least 50 posts), so if you see a good opportunity for writers, please remember to add it. I've already heard from at least three writers who won or placed in contests because they saw them on our calendar. :)

Thanks!

Now, now, Dama. Probably it's just a coincidence.

So, what you're all saying is...

Not it?

(I envision the whole line of AWers stepping backwards and avoiding eye contact with me.)

:D

Fine! I can take a hint! I'll stay in the dungeon and continue scratching out the calendar entries...

I saw a cloud of dust over to the west . . .

Just an idea . . . maybe this isn't a "one woman job". Maybe you could ask for, say, three volunteers to be the Official and Royal Keepers of the Calendar. They could break up the job by tasks, or some other way.

ac *last seen heading west quickly . . . *

Look at all the people who stare in the Abyss and when it stared back, they got all wide eyed and kooky. :)

Jenna, I PM'd, and I'll be happy to be the calendar keeper -- even from the Middle East.

Quid, you absolutely can.

Jason, you are a king. Thanks so much! Writing to you now...

(And, yes, Alleycat's right-- more than one person would be welcome.)

Jenna,

I added a few today to the calendar. I don't want to wear a calendar hat, as I am infamously unpredictable. I will, however, continue to post contests and such now that I've done so this morning and found that it didn't hurt one bit.

Thanks,
Kevin

I had no idea a member could add to the calendar. I thought there were calendar gods and goddesses doing it like eveything else in here... I don't want to commit to anything extra right now, but I will certainly keep my eyes open for events that can be added.

Eager posters:

For the sake of me not posting something twice, it may be helpful to simply send the event to me. Then, I'll post it for you. Pm or email is fine. Or, if you do post something to the calendar, please let me know what you posted. One of those solutions will work.

Thanks.

FNCG (the last three letters mean 'new calendar guy') :)

Good idea, Jason. And thanks a bunch for volunteering for the job, you're a prince.

PS -- what's the first letter for? Friendly? Fresh? Funky? ;)

It's a military term, so ... umm, it's vulgar and would show up as asterisks here. :)
