"life is fun....life is grand....life is dancing....on quicksand."

It'll be on my home page. :)

Everything is easier to take while wearing a really loud Hawaiian shirt.

Live life with courage, compassion, and honor and you shall live well all the days of your life.

Oh, and one other I pilfered from the John Wayne flick, Rooster Coogburn.

"Fill yer hands, you sonofabitch!"

(Sorry. Feeling a little "Duke-ish", today.)

Everything is easier to take while wearing a really loud Hawaiian shirt.

I've always lived that, just never expressed it...

In case it wasn't clear: mine is my signature.

06-30-2004, 11:19 PM
I care.

Oh, and see my sig for another...

06-30-2004, 11:46 PM
No matter what happens, I will always be okay.

07-01-2004, 12:30 AM
Things only have the power that you give them.

And my sig is for writing poetry and greeting card verse.

"I'm strong enough, smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like me!"

Okay, just kidding, that's Stuart Smalley. (Or was it Stuart Smiley?) :grin

Seriously now, how about:

"Life is a journey, not a destination."

Or, when it comes to writing:

"You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club." -Jack London

07-01-2004, 03:34 AM
I like this one:

What are you waiting for? Live!

If we're allowed to mention several, here are several that my daughter's death made real to me -

"To all survivors everywhere - Always choose to live life to the fullest. You never know how much that choice affects the world around you."

"Life is lumpy. A lump in the oatmeal, a lump in
the throat and a lump in the breast are not the same kind of
lump. One needs to learn the difference." -- Robert Fulghum

"Any concern too small to be turned into a prayer is too small to be made into a burden."
--Corrie Ten Boom

When I was a girl, I belonged to a church group called "Explorers." We had to memorize the motto, and it's one I still try and live up to today:

As an Explorer it is my purpose
To live each day with God's love to guide me,
To grow each day, exploring God's world of wonder,
To give of myself each day,
For God has given me a life to live and share.

You never see a girl with a high ponytail about to slit her wrists.

(I forget where I got that from, but whenever I'm feeling down, I stick my hair in a high ponytail. Or dye it pink. It's so true.)

Fortune favors the brave.

(Don't know where the line's from originally, but it stuck with me in the Aida song. Taped above my computer monitor.)

I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not.

(--Me, I think)

Start at the beginning, and when you get to the end, stop.

(Monty Python?)

I'm not very good at remembering where quotations are from. I just realized that.

Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy brownies, which can cause happiness.

Was kidding about the stupid part.

From this moment on.

This means that, no matter what youre doing, no matter where you are, no matter what it is, you can all ways stop, make a new detemination and start over again from this moment on

Thats mine

The only thing in life that can't be rectified is death.

Wouldn't say it's a motto, but I always liked it.

07-02-2004, 07:03 AM
it's my sig quote from the mahatma...

07-02-2004, 08:22 AM
Yeah, how can I forget my sig. I live by that:

"when i die, i shall bequeath a rather large estate to my relatives. i am determined that there shall not be so much as one drop of bourbon left to distribute."

Elrond to Aragorn:

"Put aside the ranger and become who you were born to be."

Viggo Mortensen said this on one of the commentaries for one of the LOTR movies (forget which one) and it struck me as something a fiction writer should live by:

"As in any good story, just before it gets better, it gets a lot worse."

And my new sig:

Surely you're not one of them? Surely you have resisted the common urge to elevate Tolkien above Shakespeare at least so far as to consider taking your motto and/or signature from some other source? Oh well. I guess nobody's perfect...

~ R.Q.

07-03-2004, 07:09 AM
Surely you're not one of them?

Elves rule!

Shakespeare? Who's he?

07-03-2004, 03:16 PM
I love Elves.

Elves Lives!

Take my hand... take my whole life too... for I can't help falling in love with you...

07-04-2004, 04:02 AM
Let's see...

Got my Arwen screensaver, my limited edition Fellowship of the Ring playing cards, my genuine Legolas action figure, my hardcover The Hobbit with illustrations from the animated movie, my Pillars of Argonath bookends, my leather LOTR bookmark, LOTR paperbacks in English and French (see, I'm very literate...), hardcover LOTR with very thin pages (like some Bibles) so it fits all in one normal-sized book, the book on the making of the movies, the LOTR minatures game rules book, the Theatre Edition of all three movies, the Extended Edition of Fellowship and Two Towers, The Silmarillion, Tree and Leaf...

Hmm. Have I forgotten anything? Oh,yeah. All the posters my daughter stole...

I'm all set. :grin

07-05-2004, 03:53 AM

Also forgot to tell you about this ring thing I have...

(It's got neat-o fiery letters on it...)

Pink is your color. Now, wanna tell us what drove you to that??

MacAl Stone
07-05-2004, 10:04 PM
hmmm--fetching as pink is on Jenna--I think perhaps I'm gonna have to go with the "high ponytail" option for myself. I'd never heard that, but I LIKE it! :grin

07-19-2004, 05:10 AM
First, I must say I like the pink pic. Having done the purple/black thing myself not that many years ago, I can relate...and a high ponytail never hurt anybody.

One quote I like:

"Feed your faith, and your fears will starve to death" (author unknown)

It helps me get past those bad days.

07-20-2004, 01:27 AM
cripe, you could of at least done the photo nude. and had teh waterfall thingy dingy going. It would of looked real exotic.Oh brother.

Enjoy everything. Need nothing.

07-21-2004, 09:28 AM
The version I've heard is:

Desire everything. Want nothing.

07-21-2004, 10:06 AM
Dunno about that, maestro. 'Desire everything' leads to out-of-control office christmas parties, and in certain countries (New Zealand) it puts every good-looking sheep at risk.

07-21-2004, 07:14 PM
The original message is not to take it literally, but spiritually.

07-21-2004, 08:01 PM
I've got several.

"No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man."

"The penalty that good men pay for not being interested in politics is to be governed by men worse than themselves."

(And the one in my sig, of course)

You can also find a mission statement of sorts from Carl Sagan on the front page of my website, www.tokyopulp.com (http://www.tokyopulp.com) It's rather long, so I'll refrain from posting it here.

07-22-2004, 04:30 PM
"The penalty that good men pay for not being interested in politics is to be governed by men worse than themselves."

You wouldn't be thinking of the white house with that remark, would you? :ha

07-22-2004, 08:43 PM
Who? me? :love I'm practically an angel.

No, seriously, though. My personal politics aside (my thread in Take it Outside is ALL about that), I stand wholeheartedly behind that quote, no matter who's in office. You snooze you lose, and if you sleep too long you may lose it all. Thre's a quote from a man named Thornton Wilder that runs, "Every precious thing in the world stands moment by moment on the razor edge of danger, and must be thought for." I stant behind that one, too.</politicking>

And here's a Snoopy to lighten the mood. :snoopy

Noli me tangere. That's Latin. Means 'Touch me not.' It's also a flower. Jewelweed.

07-24-2004, 05:46 AM
If we're going for Latin, how about Julius Caesar's statement about Britain?

'Veni, vidi, visa' - 'I came, I saw, I shopped.'

Bravo, AQ. I always wondered where he got that nifty six-horse chariot.

From a Rich Mullins song...

"I'd rather fight you for something I don't really want than to take what you give that I need."

Never eat anything brown unless you know what it is.

My motto is...F%$K 'em if they can't take a joke.

12-31-2005, 11:50 PM
I try to live my life by 5 rules:

Love God.
Love each other.
Work hard.
Have fun.
Do the best you can.

When I was in my 20s I only had 4 rules but, after too many years of 60+ hour work weeks, I added "Have fun." It seems to be the hardest one for me to apply.

12-31-2005, 11:58 PM
"Keep your friends close and your enemies closer"- THE GODFATHER.... I know it's not original but hey I liked the way it sounded. :)
