Reactions to Memoir

blitzy

I'm trying to find any articles (or books) written by people who have seen themselves portrayed in a family member's work: memoir, short stories, etc.

I was reading Sheila Munro's "Lives of Mothers and Daughters" but it's sadly lacking in seeing herself portrayed in her mother's writing.

Any suggestions?

Sarah Henderson wrote a few books on life in outback Australia. Her daughter, Bonnie, was unhappy with how she was portrayed and wrote her own story to set the record straight.

Just one I can think of off the top of my head. I’m sure there are more.

Not quite a memoir, but Christopher Robin (from 'Winnie the Pooh' fame) learned to really loath being portrayed in his father's books.

Not because it was unkind or anything - simply that it never allowed him to really grow up. Imagine trying to have a professional image, while everyone you meet keeps thinking of you as a little kid playing with stuffed toys ...
