Oh man...... My cousin went to the Family Values concert and got to see my favorite band, Dir en Grey. I didn't know they were going to be playing. I had the chance to go to the concert and I passed it up because of a stomach virus. Even if I had my limbs ripped off and my arteries were hanging out of numerous wounds, I wound have gone if I knew they were playing.

This is such a stupid, b!tchy thing to be complaining about, but geez..... My whole day's just been ruined. BJKLBfdlafdlabgd;a

The good thing about bands is that unless the venue really sucked--cheated them, for instance, or couldn't produce the audience they promised the promoter--they tend to return on the next tour. Catch them on the next pass for sure.

Meanwhile, buy yourself a CD or two on what a ticket would have cost and enjoy!

(I don't know the band by name--what genre?)

Ahh, that's why the name's familiar. They've played here fairly recently. Some influence by or similarity to Scandanavian death metal, right?

Oh yeah? Well I just found out that Bob Dylan is playing with the Raconteurs in November. Bob Dylan and Jack White together, that is one of the top things I want to see in my life!

And guess what,
it's on the other side of the world!

My sister is nuts over the Raconteurs, but I guess they leave me a bit underwhelmed. It's unique when it's Jack & Meg, but when it's just Jack and a bunch of other rock musicians, they sound a bit more like just another rock band.

They're not bad, particularly, but they have yet to really blow me away. That said,I'll find myself out of nowhere singing "Steady as She Goes" under my breath, so I guess they've got under my skin anyway.

And I would have gone to see Dir En Gray. They are bizarre, but enjoyable. Not quite my usual taste in metal, but I enjoy 'em.

Wow, I didn't know J-rock bands played in the states. It would be great to see Dir en Grey, they're fun. Any chance any others play here? I have a bad feeling the chances of some group like Charcoal Filter or Porno Graffiti playing near here are slim and none. :(

Electric Eel Shock plays many small venues all over the US. The local music critic--who's pretty dammed good, and always highly entertaining--likens them to Dir en Grey.

Maryn, who's never seen either

The White Stripes are better than The Raconteurs, I think. Because the White Stripes is Jack's thing, whereas the Raconteurs is shared.

But when I saw the Raconteurs live, Jack blew me away. Really he did. And I don't care what band Jacks playing with if it's with Dylan. It's something I've got to see.

Maryn, Electric Eel Shock are great live!

I know, I didn't know they were playing here either. I knew that a few of the more popular j-rock bands toured the states, but it was still surprising. I'm not sure if any j-rock will be playing in the states any time soon, but I promise it will only be in the bigger cities :(.

I would have to agree that the White Stripes are better, but I think that's because I appreciate the stronger, yet simple, music. Nothing like just a guitar and a drumset.
I think they're boring. I play the drums, and I've fallen asleep while playing their songs. There's no challenge to them.

I'm a drummer as well, but I still appreciate the White Stripes drumming because even though it's simple, it's tasteful and fitting to the music. I do appreciate challenge in other music, but I think that if the White Stripes played complicated, it would take away from their music.

Yeah but take into account I'm a loser at everything that has to do in music and even I find that to be extremely simple.

There's a legendary (yet true) anecdote about me. We were trying to form a band with some friends, so they came to my house and made me listen to a song and told me to try and play it in my drums. I listened to it and then tried to play it, but then realized everyone was giving me strange looks.
"What?" I asked.
"Er... the part you're playing is the guitar's part."

Wooops!!

Ok, I'm a drummer too, so here's a question.
Meg plays with a really loose style that's either because she's a terrible drummer or a really great one. Either way it works, but I can't decide which it is. Thoughts?

Hee hee hee. I don't bother with trying to make a band. Most of my friends are local band members (those funny, freaky blue hair people, you know) so I invite them up to the attic and we jam for hours. I don't like memorizing anything, improvisation is my strong point.

I've questioned this as well. She plays very loosely, which leads me to think she may be terrible at marder drumming. But! The way she looks when she plays leads to think otherwise. She seems like she knows what she's doing, and that she thinks the music sounds better with simple drumming, so maybe she's a musical mastermind in disguise. I guess her whether she's holding back or just bad is still up for grabs.

I can't improvise worth a damn.

Some people are skilled like that. I always improvise stuff when the teacher asks me questions about something I wasn't paying attention to, and I sound sure of myself and so convincing they let me get away with repeating the same thing 20 times with different words.

A few of my past teachers were very easy to fool. Slap on some big words and you have yourself an A. "What? Oh, um... I believe the, uh, deconstructed dysentery, is very, um, enthusiatic?" I actually passed that class with extra credit. :D

Looool. I get along very well with my Philosophy teacher, which means he gets to be mean to me and then we'll both laugh about it after class. So I skipped one of his classes in which we discussed Plato, and to get even he asked me about Plato's dialectica method. I was at loss. I made up Plato's method right there, but for some odd reason I managed to get it right. Ha! Sure taught him a lesson!
