So most of you look like typewriters or elves or some such to me.
Many of you are talking dogs and cats, and when I read your posts I hear a strange snarling speech in my head.
Terri, Jenna, and robaeiou are beautiful ladies, Maestrowork was Superman until recently, and some of you are just plain invisible.
So for the folks like me, Peedee, Sass, etc. who use their own pictures, is there anything in common that makes us use our own picture instead of another image?
vanity perhaps?

You have no shame. Of course it's vanity. ;)

Neat.

I look like Vin Diesel?!?!?!

No way! Now I'll have all these guys and chicks asking me to have sex with them and give them back massages. Cool!

In my mind, you three are Vin Diesel, the scream, and a little kitty cat.
Actually, if other people are like me this way, maybe I should replace my avatar with some sort of underwear model.

I like avatars. They make each of the posters here somewhat mythical. Sort of like how no one knows who Spiderman really is, they only know that he does exist.

I wouldn’t call it vanity. Confidence is a better word. Arrogance always seems to be confused with confidence. I must add, it is a fine picture, except you are missing a cowboy hat, Mr. Texan.

Yee-haw!
There's a long story behind this, but I've been in a situation of wearing a mask publicly and performing, and I must say that you do things that you wouldn't otherwise when you know you are anonymous. Horrible and degrading things that...
said too much.

I think there's something in this about how we picture ourselves. If I were a psychologist, I could figure it out.

Mine is my Grandfather on his way to WWI. First boat out, last boat back.

That's beautiful. My wife's grandfather was a WWII vet and just passed away last week. Excellent choice.

I'll agree with you.

On my end, I just happened to have a caricature of myself that an artist friend drew a few years ago, so I use it instead of a photo to avoid scaring the children. I have another one as well, done by an other artist, but I prefer this one.

I'm usually invisible so my avatar suits me just fine...

I actually got recognized at a children's writer's conference I went to today from having my picture up on a site. It was surprising, and also fun to actually 'know' someone there. :)
