Great thread! Thanks for sharing all your hard work putting the links together.

Here are a few I have:

http://www.davidappleyard.com/english/vm.htm -- British / American word variants.

http://www.howstuffworks.com/index.htm -- find how things work.

http://webhome.idirect.com/~donlong/monsters/monsters.htm -- encylopedia of monsters and mythical beasts

http://www.etymonline.com/ -- on-line etymology dictionary.

http://www.onelook.com/reverse-dictionary.shtml -- describe a concept in one word.

http://www.blackmask.com/books82c/dcvgr.htm#1_0_2 -- dictionary of the vulgar tongue (c1811).

http://filmhead.com/nanoexperts.html -- research any subject.

http://www.scopesys.com/today/ -- look up any date in history.

I hope I didn't duplicate any you'd already listed.

I'm always looking something up for one reason or another. Yesterday's links were provided courtesy of my daughter's English assignment. She decided she wanted to do a research paper on ghosts of Europe.

I just hope these links can be useful to somebody some time.

Thank you shrug, this is invaluable info! kimmi:thankyou:

Does anyone know if this site is reliable?
I've used it religiously in the past and the information seems correct, but some species of monsters listed have not been listed in professional "beastiaries".
Just wondering how closely I should hug this pillow to my chest.

Thanks for raising the flag again. This had not come to my attention before.

Since this has evolved into research, inspiration and relaxation, here is one of my favorite sites. It is the live beach cam from Wrightsville Beach, NC.

BEACH LIVE

I just watch the waves (double click it to go full screen) while I think. Occasionally you will see a passerby. If weather is bad or if it is dark on the east coast you will likely find it down temporarily.

ETA: Give it time to stream. It can take a while.
