Fear has many different forms and purposes
I stood silently alone inside an empty store
thinking only of myself. I had completed
half of the store inventory when suddenly
out of nowhere I heard a loud noise. The
glass door that had protected both my
life as well as my sanity up to this point
without notice was gone. I stood motionless
for a brief moment. Fearing for my life prevented
me from running away. My cowardliness rose
up from behind an invisible shadow of denial
and embrace my body. I quickly turn around
to face my destiny not knowing the outcome
yet I felt compel to do so. My assailant
was completed camouflage except for the
green eyes that glowed from behind the
clothed mask that cover must of his face. I
remember looking down at the small black
gun that he held in his right hand as he continue
to yell out loudly; "Open up that register and
give me all that money inside or I will shot
you dead!". My life might end this night I
thought to myself, yet I would not let myself
fear my potential death this night or the next.
I open the register and stood back as my
would be judge and jury grab the money tray
from inside the register and departed the
store, but not before looking back at me to
see if I would break down and cry. I did not.
I remember calling the police to report a
robbery and next waking up on my bed
inside the safety of my apartment but the
fear would remain with me for a little while
longer.
