The People Who Brought You This Board

absolutewrite

By the way, I don't think I ever mentioned the specific people who contributed to keep this board active without the pop-ups. Besides me, of course, many people pitched in to renew our Gold community. Thank you to:

Query: are the available subscriptions different in any way but price? I wasn't sure if it was a glitch.

[Currently both the $10 and $5 are for 90 days and say,

Voluntary Subscription
We appreciate your help in keeping this board running! (Those who donate to this forum also receive special features available only to "Super Members" and "Benefactor Members.") ]

Hi Kate,

Right, they're the same. I just wanted to give two options-- there wasn't a way for me to leave the amount unspecified so people could donate whatever they wanted. I figured most people would either donate $5 or $10, so that's what I set it for.

Another way

P.S. As someone asked me earlier, there is another way to donate if you don't like those amounts. You can just use the address [email protected] to send any amount you like-- just specify in the comments field that it's a donation toward the forum and let me know your username. Any amount is more than welcome and will get you into the cool kids' club (a.k.a. Benefactor Members). THANKS!

About how much does it cost, total, to stay free of popups and whatever other curses are visited on nonpaying boards? I'm trying to get at what each person's fair share would be.

Reph

Don't know what the norm is. The reason we left ezBoard is that it was costing about $700 a year for us to continue there, based on traffic.

The new board cost me $295 in total (cost of the board license plus installation), and I don't know yet how much it'll increase our monthly hosting fees (because of the extra bandwidth and space on our server). Our hosting fees were more than $200 a month on Absolute Write's main site, but we also switched to a cheaper hosting company when we decided to add the boards to our server, knowing that we couldn't afford to pay even more than that. I'm also going to work on finding a low-cost chat option next week.

I'm not expecting everyone to chip in-- I know it's a lot more "do-able" for some people than for others, and I'll love you all the same no matter what. :LilLove: But it definitely does help me to have people contribute.

Sadly right now I don't have any money to donate but I'm making a promise here. The first story I get published at a paying market (which may be next month if i'm lucky) I'll donate it here to the forums.

And we love you

I still can't believe you made it to 100 posts before me, Ray. I feel like I've been posting constantly. You truly are the posting master.:Trophy:

South, best of luck with that story! But if the time comes and you feel more like going out for a victory dinner with the money, I will not be mad. :D

This is a truly fabulous place and I'm honored to be in such esteemed company.
Why...the colors alone...it's a veritable fruit salad...the board is brighter and easier to read...the options much more expansive. I just came back from walking the halls of the old place, my heel clicks echoing in the corridors. Memories...looks like there's some transients that want to take over the ole' joint. Chased them down but they're very elusive...ghosts....ghosts...that's what it was...doppelgangers in the ole' dump...memories...memories...good bye ole' girl, you did us proud...memories....memories. Sniff...gulp.

Tri

P.S. tried to steal the ole' speckcheck machine but it was anchored to the foundation!

Nah...help keeping these forums up and running is more important than some silly victory dinner. Besides, I doubt I'll get paid enough for it to have a decent victory dinner. So why not put the money to something more important.

The elusive spell check

Just posted this in the Changes board, but will add it here, too. http://www.iespell.com/ is a free spell check program for Internet Explorer users that's meant to work on all bulletin boards, chat rooms, etc. Try it and let me know what you think.

Ray, I'm finally beating you. Catch me if you can!

Man, if I were still the title-master, you'd have just earned yourself a new one.

Fine. I'm off to write. But I'll be back. Back, I tell you, and posting more than ever! Ever, you hear? Take that! Mwahahahaha!

OK, I'm in

as soon as DH goes back to work from lunch, I'll stroll over to Paypal and send a few bucks. I'm a sucker for cliques...

iespell

Jenna,

Just to let you know--iespell does not work here. I have it--and the colors on this board are horrible for my issues--but that's beside the point, if you have iespell and you do the right click, check spelling, it acts like it is going to do something, but then you get the pop-up box that says the check is complete--with no errors found.

I can manually find most of my own errors these days, darker backgrounds help me a lot, but I can't just post and run. Oh well. I'm not complaining--I like this place and unless thrown out, I'll be here. LOL

For now I am cutting and pasting. Maybe a good thing--makes me think about what I am saying.

Shawn (once I pay bills today, I will see what I can coontribute)
