...or wake, or memorial service?

I've chosen three:

Amazing Grace--bagpipes only. I figure if there's anything I'll be needing, it's amazing grace.

And When I Die, Blood Sweat & Tears. It's my firm belief that funerals should be more upbeat. This song should do it.

Happy Trails to You, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. A nice parting song--especially for those who believe in a hereafter.

We'll also be giving out free keychains, inscribed, "Forgive, O Lord, my little jokes on Thee, and I'll forgive Thy great big joke on me--Robert Frost."

Anyone else have any final plans?

Just north of Margaritaville
"What a Lovely Cruise" as done by Jimmy Buffet.

Margaritas will be served, of course. This "no alcohol" at funerals thing has to stop somewhere!

I like the booze idea, Ann. Still, I'll be damned if I'll buy it for all those folks lined up to see me dead. Mine will be a BYOB.

Maybe I shouldn't have said, "I'll be damned."

If I die tragically and/or violently: "Waterfalls" by TLC. A song commenting on AIDS, black-on-black crime, and other problems in modern society. No, I'm not black, but it might be a good song for young people to hear if I die of unnatural causes.

"Turntable" by TLC. A song about positive thinking during difficult times. Originally written as a dedication to T-Boz and Chilli's deceased group member, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes.

"Miss You" by Aaliyah, because the video for the song was used for all the people in the music industry to say "We miss you, Aaliyah." I figured my family and friends could do the same thing for me.

"(There's Gotta Be) More To Life" by Stacie Orrico.

"Shackles (Praise You)" by Mary Mary, because I don't want my funeral to be all sad and moody the whole time. It's an up-tempo song, a mix of Southern gospel and hip-hop, and since I'm a Christian, I thought it would be cool if it was played at my funeral.

"Can You Hear Me" by Missy Elliott featuring TLC. It's a song about two of my favorite singers who both died tragically young in transportation accidents, Aaliyah and Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes of TLC. I thought it would be appropriate for my family and friends to listen to.

"A Moment Like This" by Kelly Clarkson.

And, of course, some version of "Amazing Grace."

There are songs played at funerals that I will never forget:

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd, was played at my brothers funeral.

I prefer to disapear quietly with no memorial, no funeral, no nothing. It's easier on those left behind.

burning inside, by ministry...

will these dreams still follow me
out of dark obscurity?
can't you see it up in the sky
as it kicks you in the face and sucks you dry
you never had the answers
and now you tell me the facts of life
i really couldn't be bothered with you
get out of my face and watch me die
burning inside! burning inside!

absolution and a frozen room
are the dreams of men below
i try to grab it but the touch is hot
the mirror collapses, but the image has not
i'm scared of the darkness in the light
i scare myself because i know i'm right
i see the evil in your savage eye
as it cuts right through the sky
burning inside! burning inside!

calling a mantra with a blade in the skin
for the demons within
i feel the pain in the death and decay
but the lesson never fades away
too little shadows, turn away
you throw the man through the window pane
another slave and a victim of fate
another lesson in hate
burning inside! burning inside!

now that the gloom and doom portion of my answer is on file, let me say "gunz come out" by 50 cent or the barney song. whichever is more annoying.

No kidding: I really would not put my family through the anguish of a funeral. It's not about paying respects, it's about punishing yourself.

Everyone who loves me will know I am gone, they don't need a reminder. (The un-washed dishes in the sink would always remind them that somebody isn't home.)

The Dance by Garth Brooks. (I can't stand him, but it is a good song)
Amazing Grace on the Bagpipes (especially if it is a line of duty death)
Precious Memories (one of my favorite hymns that has been sung at all my relatives' funerals)

And last but not least:

Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) by Green Day or:
Wake Me Up When September Ends also by Green Day

Alexandre Guilmant CAPRICE in B Flat Major for organ. A lovely treasure from France.

I'm editing a funeral sermon my ancestor wrote in 1822, to use with my funeral. The subject is: Why Death Is Necessary. He wrote it for a bishop, and it's just too long.

There are places I remember -- Beatles

There are places I remember all my life,
Though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some have gone and some remain.
All these places have their moments
Of lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I loved them all.

And with all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these mem'ries lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
And I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them.
In my life I loved you more.

And I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them.
In my life I loved you more
In my life I loved you more

*sniff*

Then I want the Chicken Dance.

My husband has decided that no matter what I choose he'll play "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead" from the Wizard of Oz. Since I'm rather amused at this choice (especially since I'm playing "Ol' McGregor Bought the Farm" for his being that the odds are in favor of me outliving him by about 30 years) this works until I can think of something else. Not that I really care, I'll be gone.

I agree!
But if it would make my family happy to have some kind of memorial, I would ask them to play "Stairway to Heaven" with Led Zeppelin. For me.

I view funerals as a waste of time, money, and space. I want my body to be donated to science, my organs given to anyone that needs em, or buried / thrown in the woods somewhere to feed nature. No songs for me!
