Hi again, This seems an interesting and useful board. I have one more question. Actually, I have a lot of them:) . Well, what should be written on a sign sayng you have to take off your overwear before entering a room. Like
"Take off your overwear" or what?
Thanks a lot in advance.

"Overwear" is not commonly used in North America. I would suggest: Please remove coats and hats before entering/being seated.

Not sure exactly what scene you're setting up, but if it's an upscale restaurant/club/theatre, there would be a person(s) there whose job would be to take and hang up those articles of clothing. Most likely they would also issue the patron a numbered ticket to make finding the appropriate article(s) easier when leaving.

Hope that helps.

'Please leave hats and coats here'... or specify 'at check room' or whatever... if a traditional japanese restaurant, you'd include 'shoes' or 'footwear'...

hugs, maia

Down here we simplify it.

We yell: "Everybody Down! Keep yo eyes on the floor and aint nobody get hurt!" And we do the rest for them.
