I have no clue what today is, Australia confused the hell out of me with time, I am lost.I hear ya. Sort of. Australia doesn't confuse me - they're three hours, or, wait, 3 1/2 hours, ahead of us, so that's not bad. It's that whole 'other people on the other side of the world' thing who're experiencing night when we have day. I mean, seriously, what's wrong with you people? You should be having day same time as us... :D

Link to Technorati when you post:

<a href="http://technorati.com/tag/awchain" rel="tag">awchain</a>

Include a permalink to the blog of the previous poster and one to the blog that comes after you, like that one is able to navigate through the chain without this thread :)

Please post the permalink in here too and PM the next one :D

And if I should not answer for a few hours like I would not usually, it is just weird Australians keeping me away from Computer by wanting to show me their continent.

Or.... we could switch places and you could post like right away. Wanna? :D

I'm heading to bed in the next half hour, so, um, decide quick? And if you don't see this until I've gone to bed, then feel free to just go first and tell me later - I'll find out in the morning if necessary. We can get the html code corrected later. :)

Okay, I'm honestly not making this up. My blog, at this moment, is fubar'd. Don't know why, can't fix it at the moment. So, I can't post any entries right now anyway, so someone else will have to go first.

*sigh*

ETA: It's either being hacked or, the more likely scenario, it's experiencing a php problem. *sigh*

I'd be willing to make a go of it. I haven't participated before, so someone (hint) would need to point me towards a good example of how to start. I can dig through No. 4's thread as well.

Sury
08-20-2006, 09:36 PM
Asorum, the way it's usually done is this: the first person in a new chain starts their post by taking a cue off the last post in the previous chain. In this instance, if you start the chain, you need to link your post in some way to Madderblue's AW Chain 4 post.

I hope I was clear there. If you have any more doubts, ask away! :)

Is there a thread that explains the premise of the blogchain?
Premise? I want to fall into a quote from The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. My take on it is that linking from blog to blog and posting comments improves your own blog's standing with the likes of Technorati and it's fun to try carrying on from the entry made by the previous writer.

DTKelly
08-26-2006, 01:47 AM
The rules of the Chain got lost in the last forum foul up.

Basically, everyone signs up, the first person posts, the next person takes some element of that post and blogs about it, the next person takes something from the second person's blog, etc. The last person of the round has the fun job of not only taking something from the previous post, but ALSO connecting it somehow to the first post of th round, thus completing the loop.

The next round starts with the first person taking something from the last round's last poster, and the cycle continues, hence the chain.

I can't comment on any LiveJournal blogs - LiveJournal seems to think that all Sri Lankan internet connects are open proxy, meaning high spam, therefore we're apparently automatically disallowed and short of complaining to LiveJournal and nothing being done anyway, there's nothing we can do. :( Oh, except get a LiveJournal account, and, um, sorry, but I don't actually want one.

L M Ashton
08-29-2006, 11:11 AM
I completely understand whatever steps are necessary to prevent spamming. Moderation is completely fine by me. I think most people understand.

Mine is currently at moderation, but I'll soon add a plugin that allows whitelisting specific emails. I just have to get around to it... :)

Forbidden Snowflake
08-29-2006, 11:27 AM
I used to moderate, getting my own page up at the moment, I will keep my LJ though, but I will have my creative writing and my German thing on my own site and I might have to go back to moderating, it is totally understandable.

mdin
08-29-2006, 11:42 AM
Personally, I would rather let a few spam messages sit on there for 5-12 hours than deal with moderation. It tends to make conversations between visitors difficult. Though word verification seems to completely block out the comment spam, I *hate* those boxes and only add them to my blog when I get 2-3 spams in a short period of time. I leave it up for a week then take it down. It usually takes a couple weeks before I get spammed again.

Forbidden Snowflake
08-29-2006, 11:45 AM
The word verification thing annoys me, I would not use it.

L M Ashton
08-29-2006, 12:29 PM
On my wordpress install, I'd get 15-20 comment spams a day, some with as many as a couple of hundred links to porn or drug sites. So I installed captcha - that visual word verification thingy. Cut it back to 3-5 comment spam a day. Of course, SpamKarma caught all the comment spam - not one made it to the actual blog - I just hate dealing with spam.

I have no problem with other people having it on their site or me using it.

Aw, you guys are sweet. Thanks. :)

I'm feeling better today. Not all the way better, but at least halfway there, and so far, I can use the laptop without the display hurting me too much, so I can probably manage it today. I'll get to it in a few minutes after I put a load of laundry in. :)

Simran, thanks for the linky. I didn't know that about curries, and I'm now wondering if that's at least partly behind my decrease in headaches since I moved to Sri Lanka and started eating curries nearly every day. Funny thing, though, is that I still get 'em, and, well, nearly everyone else in this house gets a lot of headaches, too, so it's not completely foolproof. Still, interesting.

Turmeric is also supposed to be good for slowing down the progression of Alzheimers. Studies were done after worldwide statistics showed that India (and likely other curry consuming countries) had significantly lower rates of Alzheimers.

You're welcome Laurie. Hope it works, at least to some extent for you. I didn't know that about turmeric. Very interesting. Glad to see you're back with us again. Thanks for stopping by the site too and leaving your comment. I left a response there for you too. Can't wait to read your AW Chain #5 entry.

There is a flu going round Canebrra with the same symptoms. I have decided that time spent in bed whimpering is solidariity rather than giving in to pain :).

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well either Gillian. Hope you feel better soon. My allergies are acting up with this stupid change of weather too.

I'm done. The post is up at http://lmashton.com/2006/09/wives_who_shouldnt_play_with_e.html and I've PMed Simran. Thanks for being patient. :)

I still feel like crap, but it's a better grade of crap. And what I have is definitely not the flu. I wish it was - then at least it would have an end at some point in the foreseeable future. :(

Gillian, sorry you're not feeling well, but I love your show of solidarity. :)

Almost done, however, I have a question. I know that in the beginning and middle of the chain, you post who is next. Uh... what do you do when you're last? I'll put up something, that can always be changed, but I just wanted to ask.

eta: hmmm... I just looked at the last blog in the previous chain, and I'll use that as a template, if there are no objections. ;)

I feel like I'm dangling over the edge of a cliff, though. What's next? :D

Serenity great post but don't forget to connect back to mine and also add the Technorati link at the end of your post. Thanks.

ok, by connect back to yours, do you mean hyperlink to your blog post? Because if so, I did that, it's just kind of hard to see on my blog sometimes. If it's something else, someone will have to explain to me, 'cause I don't know all the blogging lingo yet. ;)

edit: if you did mean the first part, I went back and put the links in bold and underlined them for clarification. If that's not what you meant, just let me know. I may teach, but I also learn. :D

yeah quibs, I know. I hate it when I put a funny in a post and no one laughs or says anything. Like my 4 foot brownie joke, but I did laugh at blender bit. I just didn't want to say anything, cause we klutz's gotta stick together :)

No, I laughed at the four foot brownie. :) Mostly cuz it's true.

And the funny of which I talk is still the Sasquash. I'm obsessed. :D

No.6. Does that mean you're volunteering to organize and run it, asorum? ;)

You know Simran I had to go reread your post cause I missed the joke(nothing new there). You really did make a good connection. Go reread some of the other posts..the whole point is: it's like we are sitting having coffe together, and we would have conversations. Each of us would contribute, but what we talked about would be different. You talk about playing hopscotch as a kid, which makes me think of jumping rope. After I tell my jump rope story something in that makes Quid miss her mom's chocolate chip cookies and so forth. It's not about strong or weak links..it's about using each others experiances to get us to become better communicators through words, and show how we are all connected, and have fun doing it :)
Your post was great.

LMAO, I have to post this here. Thoughs of you who go to my blog know that I have been having sidebar issues. I have deleted posts and reposted, taken down codes and put them back up, spent an evening with the orginal template copied to notepad and compared it line by line to my current template to see if anything was off. Nothing was fixing the issue. I made an entry today to repost the final links for blog chain#5 and guess what...side bar is now back where it should be! Isn't technology fun? LMAO
