Newbie Ignorance--Editing Here (Edited!)

I see additions to notes here that the author edited the message on thus-and-such a date to add this or that, but I don't see that option for myself.

Break it to me gently--am I blind, or stupid? [Add: Both!]

If it's something that ought to be obvious, might someone please explain in non-technical terminology how I could edit this message, if I saw it needed it? Thanks in advance.
