If you had a your full manuscript rejected by an agent within 24 hours (the glory of email), would you assume he didn't make it past the first chapter? Although his rejection also contained some positives, there was nothing in it that indicated how far he'd read.

That would depend, to me, on whether the same person had previously looked at a partial. It's quite possible you caught the agent on a good (as such) day and he sat down and read it in one swoop. I can read a full manuscript in about three hours, so it's not impossible that he read the whole thing.

Still, sorry... :(

Nope, this one asked for the full right away. Since I'd been on a streak of agents either requesting a full after reading a partial, or reading the whole thing and writing me a delightful rejection, I was feeling pretty confident (at least about the first fifty pages).

Anyway, I guess it does mean he had nothing better to read that day and clicked it up (rather than picked it up, since it was sent by email) immediately.
