I don't know any more about this contest than what it says on the page but I thought there might be others out there sitting on a novel (apologies for making us sound like broody hens). Anyway, it might be a way to hatch your novel

I'm not sure what issues there might be about having your first chapter "published" on the website for voting. Would it make a different publisher disinclined to take up the novel?

No. Short excerpts are fine, and can even help build interest. Putting up your whole manuscript would be a big no-no, though.

Thank you for the heads up. It seems like a great contest from what I read there. I think I might get up my nerve and submit. Heck, agents don't like my book, maybe readers will. LOL.
