Moses, born to Hebrew slave parents, became a prince of Egypt -- foster son of Pharoah's daughter, so he was of the royal house. He killed a man and was banished, wandered in teh desert and went to work for a desert chieftain, herding sheep. I read somewhere that the Egyptians hated sheep. (Why, I don't know) He worked for Jethro of Midian, married Jethro's daughter Zipporah but was then called by God back into Egypt to confront Pharoah and convince him to release the Israelites (Hebrews). Passover commemorates when the Israelites finally regained their freedom.
During Moses' years in the desert, he didn't have much of a portfolio.
Hope that helped.
