I'm a huge fan of Titles for books. Even my own writing can't begin until I've found the perfect title for it. Sometimes the title is more interesting and meaningful than the book behind it.

Are there any published books (or even movies) whose title alone grabbed your attention - regardless of what the book or movie was actually about?

The two that strike me the most are:

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

and

The Long, Dark Teatime of the Soul.

you?

Waiting to Exhale - (story of my life)

Great title. I wish the story had been half as good.

I like the long-winded titles:

The Troublesome Offspring of Cardinal Guzman - Louis deBernieres

Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World - Haruki Murakami

That said - I loved the title of Ishiguro's "Never Let Me Go", I thought it set the novel up perfectly.

Douglas Adams titles are wonderful. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. So Long, and Thanks For All the Fish. The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.
Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes.
The Cloak of Night and Daggers.
I like titles that are offbeat, clever, funny.

I definitely prefer titles that are short and have some meaning, if not more than one meaning.

Like Nineteen Eighty-Four. Divine Comedy.

Although titles that just mean so much more than the literal translation are way up there. Catcher in the Rye, Lord of the Flies, that type of thing.

"the curious incident of the dog in the night time", though the upside down poodle on the otherwise blank cover also helped
