View Full Version : Okay people--what's getting written

I have a baaaaad feeling [apologies to Maryn] about my Ruthies goal.

I promised the last novella in my Maewyn trilogy some (not clearly specified) time ago and I only have 8000 words. So it's 1000 words a day on 'A Heart in Shadows' or my editor may pull out the whip with the little teeth and glass shards.

Well, I declined to participate in Ruthie's, in large part b/c I've just got too many other projects, especially a novella that's been "twenty pages" from being done for about two months now, and I swear I've written well over twenty pages in that time, and I've STILL got twenty pages left, and the novella is turning into a novel. Sigh.

*still* working on the novella...

I'm pretty sure that I'll still participate in the RC project. I am unable to focus on just one project at a time. I need variety to keep me focussed. :)

I'm awash in a fourth draft of a novel. The third draft was pretty solid, but too long. All four was supposed to do was trim and consolidate, but the characters had their own ideas... You all know how that goes!

Basically, I'm playing with JulaNaNo and trying to get my life under control, so the Ruthie's project may have to wait. If I put anything more on my plate I'm going to scream. Although I jump over and mess with it a bit when I get stuck on the Novel.

I may scream anyway...

If I'm going to work for peanuts, I might as well do it free, so right now I'm working on a script for an erotic artist I found over at Renderotica. I'd forgotten all about Ruthies.

I finished the first draft of my novella. I'm going to let it sit before I tackle draft #2.

Maybe I'll have time to work on the RC story this weekend. :)

I'm focusing on my children's stories this weekend and adding words to my novel every day. Just not the right time for the RC project.

I'm toying with the idea of writing a f/f short next week, for another publication. We'll see...

Well, I'm not going to meet my goal of the 10th. Life got in the way this past week and very little fiction writing got done, but maybe one more week and I'll have a draft. I hope.

I finished my latest novel and since I'm letting it sit for a couple of weeks, I decided to try my hand at writing erotica. Not saying it's easy (I'm really struggling so far) but I just thought it might be a fun change. I'm definitely having fun with it so far!! lol

Damn, CB got me all hot and bothered to do a Yaoi script... grumble, grumble, grumble. Poor Nate and Ceasar are stuck in mid, well mid a place where you don't want to be stopped midway through.

Well, it's not writing but I finished a tentative first character design. :) I'm thinking the neon on black colorscheme will help create the surreal feal I want, but I'm not 100% certain about it, so I may change my mind later. The lineart is finalized though - this is Tine. This weeks project is to do the same for at least one more character, and preferably all 3.

sunandshadow - it looks like he belongs in Cirque de Soleil. The design is really interesting.

ok, so have most of us abandoned the RC project? I haven't gotten around to it at all. I know we had good intentions, and it was a good idea at the time. :)

It sounds like everyone's gettting work done, just not on the Ruthie's Club plan. Maybe the timing was just wrong (as it was for me), and we should try it again in a few months.

Yeah, I think my goal of the 10th was a tad too ambitious. I'm still hoping to get a draft put together in the next week or two, but in the meantime I'm working on some freelance projects that will pay me money right now, so I've got to give them priority. Got to buy those groceries!

I'm within sight of the end of the fourth draft of the Novel that Refused to be Shortened (but let itself change radically). Woo-hoo! However, July is positively insane (3 birthdays, a business trip, a kid's oral surgery, a week away from home, our anniversary), so even a half-hour of writing per day is not something I can count on.

Anne and I are 139 words away from hitting the 70k mark on a book we began June 13, yet another in the yaoi/erotic urban dark fantasy world we've created.

When that gets done that makes 5 we've completed in the series since last August for a total of approximately a half million words.

It boggles the mind, especially since I couldn't write word one for four years prior to that.

Barbara - Wow, that's a lot of progress. Kudos!

Maryn - I'm with you. Summer is always hectic...friend's birthdays, get-togethers, out-of-town visitors.

Then again, all work and no play would make me very cranky.

Hi all :)

I'm new to AW and obviously new to this bit of the forums.

I've written a few erotic stories and a couple of adult pantomimes so far but never tried to get anything professionally published yet.

I've got ideas for around 5 or 6 more short stories but at the mo I'm working on an erotic novel - had the idea for ages but finally started doing something about it :) - and busily browsing AW for as much advice as I can get.

Hope to chat to you all soon and hope I can help others as much as this forum has already helped me :)

Thanks Lee :)

I'm nowhere near finished and don't get that much time to write so it will probably take me ages but I'm really enjoying it and I'll get there eventually :)

I have written more than 5,000 words so far this week. This is a big leap since I had been having major writers block for months! I feel great, finally going strong and long! I sound like a Viagra commercial now.

Anne and I finished the book we were zipping through last time I popped into this thread and we're around 34,000 words into a new shorter book we started two weeks ago.

I've never written so fast in my life. It's kind of scary but in a very cool way. ;)

BarbaraSheridan

Me too. :)

The way I see it this flood of creativity is all the backed up s"tuff" from the four years when I couldn't get anything new and more importantly, good, written at all.

So if you average out all that I've written with Anne since last Auugust it comes out to one 80-100,000 word book per year.

Hey Vein, Lee, everybody!

I haven't been here in awhile, I've been busy with RL and a gizzzzilion writing projects its seems. I've got one story serializing, a few reviews out, I'm writing a nonfic piece, and trying to type my kinky story.

I'll post some as soon as I get to the goods! It looks like it might be short, though 20k maybe. There were two storylines I cut out, thinking the were too serious and slowed down the kink, but I might put them back in, I'm not sure.

Maybe It's premature, but I've also started a mailing list, just in case my serial gets popular. I've got a myspace spot up for my pen name too.

Intriguing!

Ta,
Kristin

I'm new on this section of the Cooler, but I had an idea for an erotic short story that I felt like I had to write, so I wrote it. It's about an immortal man who has been in love with a mortal woman through many of her incarnations. Every time they've reached a point in their relationship where they're ready to sleep together, she's been killed by other immortals, because if an immortal has sex with a mortal, the immortality is passed on. The man has just found her again in her newest incarnation and is determined that this time, they'll consummate their relationship. LOL. The story reads better than I've described it... It's too short, though, slightly under 3000 words, so I have some revisions to do and thanks to the link posted in this section, I'll be posting it on Desdmona's after I fulfill my five critiques :)

Good luck with that.

I'm close to 50k on a M/M peice I think is either going to end up titled "The Good Thief" or "Lesser Evil" Not sure which. Mapped out at 23 chapters. 15 are "done," 7 have bits and pieces written and only one is stuck at theory point (it may just get absorbed into the final chapter. It'll probably top out at close to 70k and I think I've scoped out a market for it.

I'm finally settling down to work after the whole Mercury retrogade thing & being away for a few days, and I got a bunch of revisions done today, but I'm still cranky b/c I spent a good chunk of time today revising a "talking heads" scene to layer in descriptions and motivations, all from the heroine's POV, only to get to a spot where I realized the whole bleepin' scene was supposed to be from the hero's POV, and I had to go back and redo all my brilliant prose.

I hate it when that happens.

Kristin - good luck with the rest of your kinky story.

KimJo - welcome!

I think there was something to the Mercury/retrograde thing. I've been a lot more productive lately. I just finished my first m/m short story and I've been floating ideas for a novella. Yay for new energy!

I've novelized Erica Steele Case Journal the past month-it's at 63,000 words and I still have to do a two or three chapter segue to cover a three month period between end of story two and start of story three. I'd been dreading it cause I have to deal with some downer emotional stuff; but now I'm ready to do it--looking forward to it.

This week finished Orange Moon a contemporary m/m romance surprisingly NOT related to our vampire stuff (though we still have the Asian theme going). ;) Currently revising the synopsis (the story changed a bit from the original vision we had) and considering place to submit it to.

I just realized I haven't posted an update here in a while - I found an artist to work with! :D I worked up an mpreg story we both really like, and she's designing characters while I expand the synopsis into a chapter outline. I'm excited, I love her drawings. ^_^

I just finished the second draft of a novella, "Her Favorite Vice," and then I picked up a story I'd started in response to a call to submissions, and I'd written an outline and a few scenes (it's short, under 9K words), and finally last night I did some more research on the editor who's compiling the anthology and realized she wanted ultra-literary stuff. So not me. Sigh.

And the moral of that story is that Veinglory's erotic romance publisher comparison site is a brilliant idea, and we need to get more information onto the site ASAP, b/c I wouldn't have wasted my time considering this option if I'd realized initially how literary it was. I knew it was a legit pub, but not the slant it had. And it would have saved me time in figuring out where else I can send this story, b/c I still like it.

Thanks guys! :D

Small update - I finalized through page 3 of the script and did the rough draft of page 4. I'm doing suggested panel contents and page layouts, which I've never really dome before, and they're turning out to be quite challenging. In particular we had quite a tough time thinking of a way to illustrate the main character's introspective thought, "If they knew my secret, both the other Shifters and the Gravens would think I was a freak." What image would you pick to illustrate that? ;)

Stacia Kane
08-18-2006, 10:47 PM
Big, disgusted-looking faces of Shifters and Gravens, looking out of the panel so it looks like they're staring at the narrator, if you know what I mean.

Well the narrator is a character, and he's been in almost all the panels up to this point, so it would be more consistent to have them staring at the narrator within the panel, but yeah, that's one of the options we considered. The one we decided to go with is only a small variation - because the narrator is more afraid of being lonely than of being disapproved of we decided to go with the shifters and gravens all turning their backs on the character, giving him the cold shoulder. We also decided to use multiple copies of the token shifter and token graven and arrange them into two walls, so it's like the narrator is in no man's land between them.

Hey gang!

Guess what? I finished typing all my hand written work for my kinky! So far its 104 pages, 22, 422 words! I still have at least 1 chapter of action, one chapter of the final kinky and a resolution. At first I thought I would be way short, but now I'm think 30k should do it.

Hi all,

I've got a story scheduled to publish on Cleansheets 9/13, and I'm currently about 38,000 words into an erotic novel that I expect will be 70 - 75,000.

I noticed comments to "Ruthie's" project. Can someone tell me a little more about it?

Thank you!

It kinda fell dead in the water. Cool on the publication and the 1/2 way mark.

I myself am stuck on the last two chapters of my latest novel and absolutely uninspired to write sex... it must be the seventh sign or something. And CB/Vincent are gonna kill me if I don't get the promised peice in the next week or so.

I can certainly relate to that. Fortunately, the whole Mercury-in-Retrograde thing has been kind to me; I've been fairly prolific lately. I'm not sure what that means, astrologically, but who am I to question?
