I checked Google's cache of the forum page last night and picked out nine threads to save because their topics are likely to come up again. Four of them were not available (not cached). I saved the other five as HTML Source. I reformatted "Got vs. gotten" and posted it just now. The four yet to be reformatted are "Lay or lie," "Why not you and I," "While and whilst," and "Why is 's possessive?"

Reformatting takes a long time when a page has many posts. I'll get to it, I'll get to it...

Good going, Reph. I can't figure out why some of the things I know were active on 6/30 just won't come up in a search - e.g., ellipsis in this forum. I can't find it anywhere. Puma

Puma, Google won't have a cached thread if it sent its spider to the page while the board was down. We can get pages that Google visited before that. Even then, they may not be up to date. They won't include posts made after caching. For example, Google has only the first two pages of the thread about "in back of." I know the thread was longer, about five pages.

I think I was starting to figure that out. Do you have any idea how often Google does the caches? It looks to me like we've got stuff ffrom about 6/24-5 on back which would mean we're missing about five days worth. It's really unfortunate that we lost some prime threads - but I suspect some of them will pop back up eventually. It is a challenge. Puma

The caching dates that turn up make me think Google goes to each page about once a month, on average, but its visits are irregular. Searching for pages that needed to have been cached between May 23 and June 28 or so (?) is hit or miss.
