View Full Version : The Fibonacci Turn returns

I noticed in the crash we lost the Fibonacci turn -- well as the instigator of that form, I can't let it go (I still harbor dreams of it catching on).

Here is the post from my Blog explaining it:

Recently, geek that I am, I discovered this blog (http://gottabook.blogspot.com/2006/04/fib.html) and Fibs. Fibs are 20 syllables long and constructed after the Fibonacci sequence of numbers with each line having a syllable count equal to a number in the sequence. This renders a form of:

1
1
2
3
5
8

And they have a nice Haiku-like quality about them.

Examples can be found at the blog site and basically all over the web.

All well and good, but I noodle with things; that's what I do, I noodle. And I thought if you turn back down at the 8 count, you get a slightly more complex and interesting form:

1
1
2
3
5
8
5
3
2
1
1

Here are some initial examples by me:
Hurricane Season
the
air
churning
stirring waves
beating the coastline
until the silence of the eye
when the waves renew
they batter
until
the
end

Joy
It
was
a bright
so cheery
morning when we met
from that meeting our happiness
has come to be us
you and I
are
joy

Lurker
my
life:
regrets
without end;
trouble is brewing
even when I think it isnít,
it is there lurking,
there waiting,
to take
my
life

Fragrant
a
lone
flower
buds and sprouts
bursting red, yellow
fire from the green, wet stem submerged
new fragrance spilling
through the house
beyond
its
vase

So, please feel free to leave one here in reaction to these, share the form and spread the word.

goin where the southern cross the dog.

In 1903, while waiting for a train at a station in Tutwiler, Mississippi, W.C. Handy heard a black musician playing a guitar with a knife. The man was singing about going Where The Southern Crosses The Dog, he sand it three times, and Handy recalled "it was the weirdest music I'd ever heard." The man's singing was answered by the crying sound that his guitar made as the knife slid along its metal strings.

Form is syllabic and counted in this manner:

1
1
2
3
5
8
5
3
2
1
1

A good try, but in order for it to be a Fib Turn, the syllable count has got to be right.
