View Full Version : Seeking Correct Dutch Words & Phrases

Anyone out there fluent in Dutch? My story is a romance set in 1899 with a bilingual Dutch-American character who occasionally uses Dutch words or phrases.

Iíve Googled these, but keep getting different versions and I donít want to use the wrong one. Iím fairly sure the simple words/phrases I need havenít changed from 1899, and thankfully Iím not looking for any slang phrases of the era.

Hereís what Iíd like to check out with a real person rather than relying on internet translators!

Three pines Google= drie dennen

Sweet water Google= zoet water

Nothing Google= niets

Infatuation, but more like puppy love. Google= kalverliefde or verblindheid ?

Come to me Google= bij mij komen

Stay with me Google= blijf bij mij

My love Google= mijn geliefde

Sweetheart Google= liefje

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

*zooms up*

Wuddup! I'm gonna need a bit of context for these (feel free to PM if you don't want to elaborate here).

All of these depend on the context in which they are used. "Drie dennen" is the only one that I could see working in any context. Hit me up!

Hey, 10trackers!

I figured context would have a lot to do with it and that Google would make me look like an idiot.

Thanks, and I will PM you!
