SOLVED - Looking for a word for Galleon/Pirate Ship upper deck, wood floor grate.

I searched, and I cannot find a term for this feature of the ship. Any ideas?

I'm also looking for functions of this wood feature. To bring items into and out of the ship's hold? Air or light to crew below decks? Other?

Any help appreciated. Thanks!

That's called a grating, or a hatch cover.

They cover hatches (which can be confusing; a hatch can be the passage to a cabin or other area, or a cargo hold) and cargo holds.

I'm not familiar with galleons but that's what they're called on schooners, which I am familiar with.

There are lots of great diagrams and cutaway images of various types of ships online. They're really useful for helping you get an idea of what leads where and what's below decks.
