I keep getting likes from people who claim to be associated with this agency during twitter pitch contests. I haven't submitted to any of them, though, because they frankly seem a bit sketchy. Cyle Young himself seems to be a legit agent with Hartline, but he also appears to have a side project called Cyle Young Literary Elites (CYLE) which seems to recruit college students to become literary agents while also pitching their own novels. Everyone associated with CYLE claims to be both a literary agent and a YA author, but none of them actually appear to have any clients. They're on Twitter talking exactly like the seasoned agents do, but I can find no record of any of them having made a sale.
I am less seeking information as a potential client and more just curious what the hell is going on here. Is it a scam? If so, who is being scammed, the agents, their clients, or both? Or is it something entirely in the ePub world, which I admit I don't know much about? Can anybody enlighten me?
