One of my female characters (17) gets stabbed in the abdomen by a kitchen knife. The wound isn't fatal, but I was wondering how long surgery would last. So, if any of you knows how long surgery would take depending on what organs were damaged, your help will be appreciated. (For example, if her stomach was punctured, how long would it take to fix it, how long would she then stay in the hospital?)
Also, how long does it take for her to recover?
If you have any questions about the story or the character, don't hesitate to ask!

A single stab in and out with possible perforation of stomach or bowel? Probably and hour to locate and repair the laceration, another hour to, "run the bowel," inspect every surface for more damage and assuming none, then copiously irrigate the abdominal cavity, place a drain and close. That's assuming all goes well, no solid organ damage that needs to be repaired and the surgery is done open and that would be a midline incision somewhere in the range of 6-12 inches long, 3-9 days in the hospital. Probably six weeks to be off pain meds, another 3-6 months to be at full strength with all manner of vague aches, fatigue and pains that gradually become less common and less severe over the course of a year. Expect constipation from the pain meds. If it is done laparoscopically add at least an hour or two for the surgery but cut the hospital stay in half and recovery time out of the hospital also in half. Damage to solid organs really changes things A Lot, and are the subject of multivolume texts, so not feasible for a, "what are the different possibilities," post.
