ETA: You may want to edit your original post to clarify you're not talking about Romance, so you don't get more knee-jerk reactions like mine.

I don't expect a "and they lived happily ever after" in women's fiction, but I do in romance.

In Women's Fiction, a romance subplot isn't even required. I think this article does a great job clearly defining the difference between WF and Rom.
