Thanks, Westie, tiddlywinks, and Lisa. My mom has received the traditional Surgery Eve gifts of a book of Johnny Cash poetry and a stuffed dragon. All the omens look good.
Why would you think getting a poem published is no big deal around here? Poetry is writing, too. Getting anything published is a big deal. And, your first one? How wonderful!
Congratulations, Anna! Way to go. Keep writing, keep submitting. I wish you the most success.
I'm sorry to hear about your mom's health and surgery. I hope things improve for her and she doesn't require any more surgeries due to diabetes.
Thanks, Siri--the surgery felt a bit OT so I wasn't sure if I should follow up. My mom's awake (the part I worried most about), down 1.5 toes (doctors are weird), and will be allowed to go home later today. Thanks again, everybody, for your kind words.
This week, I sold short works, sent out new work, and ventured into beta-reading. My beta reader hasn't even ripped my heart out, but the night is young.
I'm still working on a longer story. Not wanting to pester a publisher, I asked AW about a contract term in the publisher's submission call. The publisher stopped by to answer! This site is truly an amazing resource.
