I need a couple of terms for non-traditional (non-sexual) reproduction that might be feasible for a humanoid species.
Tried Google, but things just got weird.
My MC is from a relatively primitive world and her love interest is from a way more advanced planet. When things get hot between them, he confesses that kissing is forbidden on his world. His people don't have strong emotions, they don't believe in love, and they don't have sex. Instead, when a couple wants an heir, they donate genetic material and have their babies grown in artificial wombs. Before he gets to that part of the conversation, however, she takes the "we don't have sex" part and runs with it. She's thinking they either don't reproduce at all, or maybe they use some other (non-sexual) type of reproduction. She's making guesses as to how they reproduce, and since it's established that she's a doctor of biology, I need to get this right.
Basically, she's like, "Are you saying you don't reproduce? Or do you use some other method, like genetic duplication? Or. . . ."
I'd like at least one or two other methods of reproduction to slip in there, because she's a scientist and therefore gets all excited about this. Alternate "sci-fi" methods of reproduction are welcome. (I'm assuming that "genetic duplication" is another term for cloning, yes?)
Thanks in advance!
