Hi all,

I finally finished the first draft of a book that I've been working on for a while. It might not sound so great to some people (i.e. My non-writer friends!), but I'm over the moon happy.
It's a sci-fi novel and it is just over 90,000 words.

I know there is still mountains of work to do, but man does it feel good to say that I actually am going to start working on my SECOND draft!

Just thought I'd let you all know. I needed to tell someone who gets it and who better than my fellow writers! Haha

Have a great day.
Showen.
PS. Any tips on rewriting are welcome :)

Congratulations! Since it's early where I am, I'll buy you a cup of coffee or tea rather than a drink. Somehow the idea of bourbon at eight in the morning holds no appeal.

Congratulations. You've reached a milestone the vast majority of aspiring writers never do!

Advice on second draft: Take a few days off and think about anything other than your story. Then, when you go back in, you'll have fresher eyes.

Congratulations!! You've reached a major accomplishment, like Leif said. And 90k is excellent! Definitely give yourself a little time off. A few days to a month. Let yourself forget parts of the story. It's easier to edit when you can try to look at it with a reader's eyes instead of the writer's.

That is awesome. The average human does not know what a giant accomplishment this is and how amazing it feels. Congrats! Keep it up.

You are way ahead of most beginner writers. It's a huge personal achievement to stick with a novel to THE END and you should be rightly proud of yourself.

I was amazed how the tears welled up after I finished my first draft. Never expected that at all.

Well done, friend.

The hard work starts now, but it's all fun. :snoopy:

Congratulations, Showen. :welcome: and :partyguy:

Thanks for all the kind words as well as the advice on the way forward.
I'll be taking a couple of days break from the novel and then start diving in again for the second draft.

By the way, you are all awesome! :)

Cheers for now,
Showen.

Congratulations from me too, another newbie who completed my first draft end november last year. Leave it a few days for now.

What I did then was go through it, marking all the problems with bold. If it was a serious problem I would increase the font size and write something like "this is shit" above it.
