View Full Version : Recommendations for Website Designer?

01-12-2017, 12:19 AM

As I am nearing the submission of my second book to my agent (the first was published in 2010), I want to do a complete rehaul of my website to reflect the upcoming work. I designed my current website (www.vanithasankaran.com) using WordPress and while it's serviceable, I don't love it. I realize I have a pretty poor eye for design (be it a website, a house, or a wardrobe) and would like to engage the services of someone who has the talent and skills I lack.

Does anyone have recs of someone they've worked with, or whose pages they love? I'm not sure what my budget is. It's not bare bones, but I don't have thousands to spend either. Obviously I have my domain name already but I want to port that away from Yahoo/Aabaco to a more promising host.

Thank you,

James W

Have you thought about using a Wordpress theme which has the look and feel you want, and then getting a specialist to tweak aspects of it until it's as you wish?

I don't have any personal suggestions for individual designers, I'm afraid. What I would suggest is browsing some sites with the 'feel' that you want yours to have, and then making inquiries as to how they were designed.

Good luck!

I just did the same thing, Vanitha.

Old site: indefixa.ravensbeak.com (http://indefixa.ravensbeak.com)
New site: www.bobmuellerwriter.com (http://www.bobmuellerwriter.com)

Barb Drozdowich at Bakerview Consulting (http://bakerviewconsulting.com/) did it. She's using the Genesis framework with the Fernando theme. She charges about $45 US/hour, and my site didn't take 10 hours, and that included 2 hour-long phone calls as well as a followup call after a couple of weeks.

Feel free to poke around both sites, and if you have any questions, let me know.

Edit: I was perfectly happy with my host, so I stayed there, but Barb will have recommendations for hosting.
