Saw this tonight. Excellent movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2119532/). Mel Gibson directs.

It's based on the story of Desmond Doss, a conscientious objector who enlisted in the Army in WW2, intending to become a combat medic. he went on to become the only conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor in World War II, for his actions on Okinawa.

The movie says he enlisted, but Wiki says he was drafted (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desmond_Doss). Either way, his story is powerful. In one battle, he saved 75 men, lowering them each down a 400-foot cliff.

At any rate, I enjoyed the movie. This is not a kid-friendly flick though. The battle scenes I think were more intense than the invasion scene in Saving Private Ryan.

Side note: Doss was not the only Conscientious Objector to receive the Medal of Honor, but he was the first.
