With all the other word games here, the commonality is coming up with your own new words in response to something. Let's twist things up a bit, and see if you can identify the origin of some words (specifically words in song).

I'll call it Name Those Lyrics!

Here's the Rules:

1. Lyrics must be limited to one significant line of a song.
2. The responder must (without using Google, we're on the honor system here) identify both the Artist and the Song Title.
3. Responder then replies with his or her own new one line of lyrics for someone else to respond with.

For instance, if I were to say:

"Suckin on chili dogs outside the Tastee-Freez"

The responder would say:

John Cougar - Jack n Diane

"I am the maker of rules, dealing with fools"

The goal here is to see how many song lyrics you know, and of course, get songs from your past to tease your mind incessantly for the rest of the day!

Since the quoted lyrics are not answered, that'll be for the next responder:

I am the maker of rules, dealing with fools

Eye In The Sky, Alan Parsons Project

(This is hard--am I trying to stump you? Because I know a lot of obscure music.)

I'll give you an easy one.

"You can have my isolation, you can have the hate that it brings"

Jason

Yoda! I knew it was a Weird Al tune, but was drawing a blank on the title, which is pretty pathetic given my avatar...nicely played! :)

Garden Party - Marillion

"Let it rock me slow while I sleep below"

Jason
11-28-2016, 11:48 AM
Hmmm, musta been too obscure. It was Sails, by Steve Wariner.

A slightly easier one:

I've seen a million faces, and I've rocked them all..."

"Wake up and it's still with you"

Oh geez, I don't know this one. Ok, that means you get to go again if no one replies in 24 hours (and you get a rep point from me - score!) :)

Sophia

I'll go now, so the thread doesn't get held up any longer. :) It was "Arthur's Theme" by Christopher Cross.

I think this should be easy:

Know it's you against you
It's the paradox that drives us on

Eagles, Boys of Summer. Yay, I get to post mine.

01-17-2017, 07:36 AM

Just then I saw a young hawk flyin'

Okay, cmhbob's second one has gotta be

Roll Me Away by Bob Seger

I don't know MaeZe's though, so that's still out there...which means hers is the most recent:

No sorry. Think music from the late 60s early 70s.

How about if I give you the whole refrain (remember, no cheating ;) ).

Look out Joe, I'm fallin'
I can't unfold my arms
I've got one foot in the graveyard
No one cares
For me, cares for me

Jason
01-19-2017, 11:42 AM
Not revealing the answer because I'll admit to cheating. That said, even after reading the song and artist, I still have no clue, and had never heard of the song before in my life.

Jason

Why not come up with a new one that someone has a chance at guessing? Remember the goal isn't to completely stump the audience, otherwise, no one ever gets it right and continues the fun :)

Jason

MaeZe?

MaeZe
01-24-2017, 10:27 AM
OK, that one was, "Signed DC" sung by the band, LOVE.

https://genius.com/Love-signed-dc-lyrics

One of my favorite songs from that era.

Here's something newer and sad but not so dark:

"The last time I felt like this
I was in the wilderness and the canyon was on fire"

If no one gets it from that, I'll add more lines.

Jason

Right song, but he wasn't the original. ;)

Game's too hard to get that picky, unless you wanted to point out he left "Jr" off Hank's name. It was well after Sr's time. Some of these guys wrote songs made famous by other artists, like John Prine for example.

Jason
01-27-2017, 09:21 AM

Why do I find it hard to write the next line?

OMG! Finally I got one! I look on here all the time and almost never know, but this is:

Spandau Ballet - True

I'll come back with my Lyric pick--have to think . . . Okay, I've got one.

"I shot my mouth off and you showed me what that hole was for"

I'll switch this, same artist:

Welcome to the human race
With it's wars, disease and brutality
You with your innocence and grace
Restore some pride and dignity
To a world in decline

Oh man . . . I was so happy, but now I feel like a thread killer . . .

Here's a cover song by the same artist that's more recent. First song was debut album, second one mid career, and this one is one of the last hits.

"Well there's blood in these veins
And I cry when in pain
I'm only (title)
And if looks can deceive
Make it hard to believe
I'm only (title)"

Good luck all! :)

Ding-ding-ding! I meant to come back and quote "Brass in Pocket" LOL!

"Tattooed Love Boys" was the first one, and it was recently in the news due to her auto-biography.

"Show Me" was the second one.

As usual, your lyrics are vaguely familiar, but I'll leave it to the rest of you!

Congrats, and thanks for rescuing me from thread killing!

I know more of the lyrics:

"...Baby I can't fight this feeling anymore...I've forgotten what I started fighting for...and if I have to ("do something?") on the floor, come crashing through your door..."

That's all I can remember of the lyrics, and my best guess of the band is REO Speedwagon (←I butchered it, right?)

Glenn Frey on his first solo album, and used as part of the Miami Vice soundtrack.

Yeah, if you mistakenly reference one of the artists from a group when answering a quoted set of lyrics, I'd say that's forgivable. Especially if it's Glen Frey, Don Henley, and the Eagles! LOL

Other acceptable mistakes would be:

Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, versus Genesis
John Lennon, Paul McCartney versus The Beatles*
Roger Daltry, Pete Townsend versus The Who
Eric Clapton versus Cream
Freddy Mercury versus Queen
Paul Simon and/or Art Garfunkel versus Simon & Garfunkel
Sting versus The Police
Roger Waters versus Pink Floyd (though this was more of a distinct break after Delicate Sound of Thunder imho)

*I'd be less forgiving of George Harrison as he sounded very different as a solo artist than he did when The Beatles were still together...

I'm sure there's a ton of others too! LOL :)

I believe Sophia had the last correct answer with lyrics for guessing though, and I think I know who it is, but in the interests of fair play, wanna give others a shot here: :)

Let's go with something completely different:

"...Heaven opens up a door where angels fear to tread..."

*****

I got the singer (probably with some help from MS Wiggins' post). Now for the song . . . *argh!* I can't get the next lines in my mind!

Who's Bob Segar? Did he steal it from Bob Seger? LOL

Yup, you got it, your turn for lyrics:)

I tried three times to spell his name. Failed.

Next song (going waaaaaay back):

The record hops
And all the happy times we had
The soda shop
The walks to school now make me sad, oh

I had no idea so cheated and Googled - the answer surprised me but made sense after the fact.

Hmmm perhaps too obscure. A hint: When I was young, they referred to him as "The Late Great _______ ________."

Plus the hint from yesterday if it helps: When I was young, they referred to him as "The Late Great _______ ________."

Sorry for the stumper! I'll give it until noon EST and pick another one if nobody gets it by then.

I also feel it worth mentioning that even after my Google cheat, I still had not heard the song before, and that's coming with an additional admission that I thought I knew all of their works :flag:

Wow, I thought it was a better known song than that. Answer: "What to do" by (The Late Great) Buddy Holly.

New lyrics:

You're so fine
They'll never see you leaving by the back door

I can't think of the song's title. Hell, I can't understand most of Jagger's guttural lyrics even though I like the tunes. "Shattered" is what first comes to mind as being enjoyable, but what the hell is he saying besides, 'Shattered'?

"Start Me Up" is the elusive Rolling Stones song.

Why do I always manage to miss the one I would have got, only to check back when there's one I have no clue about?

Everclear - "I Will Buy You a New Life." (I used to listen to this song a lot... I liked the next line, too. "They have never been poor. They have never had the joy of a welfare Christmas.")
