Hi,

I'm looking for information on what the upper classes of Norway were like in the first decade of the 20th century. My character is 12 to 14 years old (right now she's 14, but I might age her down a bit) and traveling to America with her mother, first class. I would like to know what kind of education she would have had back home, if she would have been taught foreign languages, if she would be preparing to "come out" to high society, and what daily life would have been like for her before her travels.

I've been looking up books and articles about this, but it's hard to find information on the upper classes of this particular place and time.

Thank you in advance.

Read some Ibsen, most of his work is set a little earlier but I doubt things changed hugely.

It's Sweden rather than Norway, and upper bourgeois rather than aristocracy, but you may get something useful from Ingmar Bergman's film Fanny and Alexander.

Even if it's not actually useful, it's a good film that's worth seeing anyway. :)
