My favourite laundry sign said, in all caps, just

TAKE UP PANTS

Like, what? Is it an exhortation to take up the sacred vow of pants?

Not a syntax issue, but FWIW, my favourite ever sign is on the Brisbane airport train. Under the emergency intercom is written something like:

In case of emergency, press button and speak into intercom when light flashes.

It then repeats the exact same message ... in Braille.

:Wha:

I like the highway signs I see outside Canberra here, when the roads have been resurfaced but the lines aren't yet repainted:

Caution - no lane markers
Do not overtake unless safe

Well, okay then.

Taking up pants. It's a step beyond taking up arms, something nations do as an absolute last resort.

At my gym, they have signs by the free weights that read: Please don't drop weights on floor and return them to the rack when you are finished.

I'm pretty sure that's not what they mean to say.

Personally, I believe in the right to bare arms.

It's why I never wear sleeves.

Whenever I see a vending machine that instructs "Insert coins and depress buttons", I feel compelled to spend the next few minutes telling the buttons that they're ugly and no one likes them.

There is a "Slow Milk" sign by the roadside. Poor thing's unable to cross the road safely, unlike his twin Fast Milk...

I've seen those signs before and never thought about it like how you did. That's was great!

North Carolina, unfortunately
My dad saw a rather delightful road sign in the Bahamas a couple of decades ago... where we would have "Lane ends, merge left" they had "Squeeze, filter left". :)

Oh, man.

We went into the city yesterday, and there's an exhibit in Darling Harbour called Sign City - reproductions of odd signs the creator has seen around the world.

See next post.
