About UP AND COMING:

This anthology includes 120 authors—who contributed 230 works totaling approximately 1.1 MILLION words of fiction. These pieces all originally appeared in 2014, 2015, or 2016 from writers who are new professionals to the SFF field, and they represent a breathtaking range of work from the next generation of speculative storytelling.

All of these authors are eligible for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer in 2016. We hope you’ll use this anthology as a guide in nominating for that award as well as a way of exploring many vibrant new voices in the genre.

This anthology will be offered as a free download through March 31, 2016 only.

(I'm reusing the thread; this post formerly contained the following submissions call -- )

Note: This is not the CAMPBELLIAN ANTHOLOGY, both in fact and because the Campbellian Anthology's creator requested we attempt differentiation.

But in light of the Campbellian Anthology not existing this year, fellow SFF author Kurt Hunt (https://twitter.com/sonitussonitus) and I are stepping up to build *a* Campbellian anthology for 2016 (title TBA).

The deadline is February 28, 8am Tokyo time (Feb 27 in the Western Hemisphere). Short time frame? You bet. But we wanted it to happen, and many of our fellow Campbell-eligible authors agreed.

This anthology will accept work from *any* author who is Campbell-eligible this year. That means your eligibility started in 2014 or 2015. Eligibility criteria are here. (http://www.writertopia.com/awards/eligibility/campbell) The list we'll be using to check eligibility is the Writertopia one, (http://www.writertopia.com/awards/campbell) and if you're eligible, you can email the lovely folks at Writertopia and get yourself added to it.

Submissions guidelines are here. (http://www.badmenagerie.com/campbellbook2016/) The submissions form is fully coded and will be up within a few days, as soon as our contract information is in place.

But in the meantime, start getting your publishers' permission, communicating with us about work that needs special formatting, and spreading the word! Tell your friends! Link far and wide!

As soon as the submissions form goes up, we'll be sending press releases to the major genre sites, as well.

Questions? Ask!

Thanks for posting this. I've been having trouble knowing which of the debut authors I've read in the past year are actually eligible for Campbells (since I don't know whether or how long they've been publishing short stories or not).

Yeah, I didn't realize some of these authors were eligible myself until I started putting it together. Yay, that's exactly the usefulness we were hoping for!

It was my pleasure. :greenie

And I should mention that half the credit goes to my excellent co-runner, fellow SFF writer Kurt Hunt.
