Any aspiring author (or even the multi-pubbed) should seriously go look at a terrific blog entry by Tor's Anna Genoese about the process of writing a Profit & Loss statement for a book. The P&L decides whether a book, regardless of whether it's wonderful and the editor loves it, gets published.

I love that blog. Bit I love Cathy more for reminding me and pointing out to go visit. Sometimes, I confess, it overwhelms me and having someone say - good stuff posted here is soooooo helpful.

This counts as one of those "need to know but didn't really want to know" or "need to know but was hoping to avoid" things. It's easier to say, "Ok, I wrote the book now hand over the cash" when you don't know what's going on behind the scenes.

Right now, my goal is to see my manuscript in print and on a store shelf. Not to say I don't want the cash (because I do) but the former has most of my attention at the moment.
