the growing number of stories about refugee children drowning or otherwise suffering not only at the hands of their oppressors, but even at the hands of those equipped to be their saviors, inspired a poem that i chose to post in the P&CE forum.

before it is completely ravaged by crickets, i am taking the advice of a wise friend and posting a link here.

read if you like; donate if you can.

Of Children, Torn by War

Driven from childhood
by blade and by bomb,
a generation of pawns—

.....of tyrant or tribe
.....of twisted text
.....of cleric or sect
.....of derricks through
.....which blood is drawn
.....from the earth
.....by benevolent butchers
.....who measure their worth
.....from the vulture perch
.....of the civilized world—

their innocence floats
away with the ghosts,
into memory, tethered
forever to tragedy.

please consider dropping a few bucks to MOAS (http://www.moas.eu/)
or the refugee aid charity of your choice.

(quoting it here for the lazy or those reluctant to venture into the wilds of P&CE)

Thank you so much for the poignant reminder, as well as the wonderful poem. I'll make a donation later tonight.

Ouch. A harsh recognition of the role the oil-greedy western world plays in the tragedy in a very concise and effective image.

As I said in the P&CE thread yesterday, I have felt unable to write to this, but it needs to be done -- and inspired by this one, I made a beginning. Here. (http://absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?314760-For-Children-In-The-Sea&p=9693070#post9693070)

Thank you.
