I recently read that agents are actively looking for writers to represent in 2015 compared to ten years ago. I don't remember what the reasoning was but I think it might be because there is a plethora of agents compared to writers who don't self publish. Might this be a good time to query?

Agents have always been keen on finding great new writers to represent. If you've written a great book, with strong commercial potential, it's always a good time to query.

Agents not looking for new writers is a myth. Except for those who have temporarily closed to queries, or those who have as many clients as they can handle already, most agents are very much open to finding new talent and love doing so.

And there aren't so many self-publishing writers that there aren't enough of them for agents to make a living. I don't know where you might have heard that, but I don't believe it.
