Hey everyone,

I'd like to know, what are the most prominent, big name poetry publishers out there? Much like the top book publishers are Simon & Shuster, Penguin, Random House, etc.... What would be the equivalent for poetry publishers?

Thanks.

What do you mean by "top"? Here's what to do: Go to a big bookstore where you live and look on the poetry shelf. (Chances are it will be small but there will be one.) Look at who published those books, particularly of new poets, not the classics.

Then you will know something.

I also do not believe (someone will no doubt correct me if I'm wrong) that any major publisher of books publishes a poetry manuscript unless the poet has already published widely in periodicals and their work has an established and known following.

Two examples from my shelves: The Best American Poetry (yearly anthology) is published by Scribner, of Simon and Schuster. A Woman Without A Country (Eavan Boland) is published by W. W. Norton.

I'm not a "poetry person" (as Kylabelle will attest), but isn't BOA Editions (http://www.boaeditions.org/) a big name in poetry publication? They're the publisher of many of the poetry volumes I see in stores.

Thanks, Maryn, you know more about the publishing world than I probably ever will. That's good information, about BOA.
