clown in the clown car
and every kid born
wants to know how they do that
in clown college, before you graduate
you learn about folding space
that's how
and really anyone should know
because there's always room
for one more book on the shelf
one more plant in the garden
one more guest
at the table
because space
is nothing
but infinite so there's
always room
for one more
of each and all, one more
kiss one more killing
one more ticket to
this circus
one more chance to
jump off the train
but first
let's have one more
visit to the bar
because I don't think
this journey
has a station.
Here in space
it's a one way ride
with no destination.

This made me smile...until the little kick at the end. Oh, and one more killing, which you snuck in there as the words were rolling along. Very nice.

And room for one more Republican presidential candidate, speaking of clown cars :) Fun poem!

The "one more killing" line jumped out at me, though. The poem was really encouraging, that you can always be more inclusive, and add a little more joy whenever possible. I thought the end was adventurous, in the sense that life is a journey and we're always on our way to somewhere else.

Thanks, Chris. I suppose the 'killing' part was rather abrupt, but I didn't want chirpy goodness; rather, that everything recurs and space is infinite.... or something like that. So there had to be the inclusion of negatives and that's where it came in. Honestly I had my doubts about that turn, how fast I took it, and whether the ride was smooth after.

Steppe, I wrote it as a warm-up. I have another I am thinking of for the contest. Thank you!

(Everyone reading here, write a poem about space and enter the contest why dontcha? There's plenty of room. :greenie)

masterful poem.

the breathless fervor that drives the conviction makes it a deceptively easy read. but there is much more, both in terms of concept and craft, below the surface.

i've enjoyed multiple readings of this.

Thank you, that's high praise. In an odd way, I wrote this in response to your Profiles in Bastardry.

Riding on the energy of that other thread, this is where I ended up.
