19 Kids and Counting star Josh Duggar is publicly admitting to being a child molester. What he says was a "teenage mistake" was actually serial sexual predation of his younger sisters. Duggar has publicly lobbied against gay marriage and gays adopting, to protect children from gays who sexually abuse them. Turns out, he was the molester.

When his parents learned of the abuse they waited 1 year before telling authorities.

It's okay though, he prayed and God has forgiven him.

So much rage, I can't really respond without using abundant curse words.

Those poor girls. I hope they weren't made to feel like it was their fault.

Love it when he says "I knew if I kept going the way I was going, I would end up ruining my life."

His life. Not the lives of his victims.

Not at all surprised, sad to say.

I grew up around some fairly stable Methodists and Baptists, and the ones I knew would have turned over their kid to the authorities the moment they found out (and did, in at least two cases that I know of.) None of this prayer-in-place-of-prosecution nonsense, either. They might be forgiven by Jesus, but they dealt with worldly justice, too.

I've always thought the Quiverfull movement, FLDS, and similar sects were environments ripe with the potential for sexual abuse. Too many kids, not enough parental attention, too much reliance on dogma and ignorance to keep everyone in line.

I feel sorry for the girls, who've had to wait a year longer than necessary for even the start of justice. I wonder if they'll leave the family? I've had friends who grew up in similarly abusive households, and it leaves permanent mental scars.

I'm not going to blame the parent-Duggars for Josh's predation and general shitheadedness, primarily because I can't know what the inside of his head is made of. And thank Thor for that. What I will say is that if you know for a fact that your son is a child molester, who under your very roof couldn't keep his hands off his own sisters, then you should probably shut your smug mouth about the guarantees of traditional family values.

You can have your opinions and your convictions, but you should recuse yourself from weighing in as an expert on successful family-building.

Josh is 27 now. This started when he was 14. Yeah, he should have known better. He should have been taught better. His sisters should have been protected better. At the foundation of this is a parenting fail.

So true.

While I understand the rage pointed at Josh I think his father is a better and more justified target.

First, according to what I've read, old Jim Bob there did NOTHING for a year and then wandered through a series of "consulting" other church elders and then sent Josh to a "family friend" for hard labor. So on and so on and so on.

All the evidence points to Josh abusing his sisters. There's no mention of THEM receiving any counselling or any assistance to deal with what must have been a horrifying experience. All the attention, when it actually came to the point that it had to be dealt with (A YEAR?) was on Josh and treating his "mistake".

Be mad at Josh - definitely.

But save more of your anger for Jim Bob, the idiot father who chose to do nothing for his victimized daughters and did nothing to correct his son's behavior for a year and then basically gave him an axe and told him to chop wood.

God willing TLC cancels this fiasco of a show and they disappear back into the deep hole they've dug for themselves.

JMO YMMV.

Williebee, with Josh and his sisters all children when this happened, I put this entirely on the parents.

I'm not excusing Josh. And I know I could be wrong. But I simply don't believe that the parents didn't see anything.

Here's the most WTF part:

Jim Bob instructed his son to meet with Arkansas State Trooper Jim Hutchens in 2003. The officer reportedly gave Josh Duggar a “very stern talk,” but took no official action. Hutchens is currently serving out a 56-year prison sentence for child pornography.

Yeah.

They still have a show? I knew that there was one, but I didn't realize it wasn't long gone.

Ugh.

Yesterday, as the news was breaking, TLC was running a marathon of their show (I don't watch, but I saw it on my on screen guide after I read about the marathon in the comments section of an article).

Terrible thing for the girls to have lived through. I don't see the father feeling sorry for them. It's only natural for a parent to want to protect their child, but all the same I don't see how the father couldn't have known...he did. And he did nothing. If there are any jail terms meeted out, good ol' Joshy needs to be thrown in with the worst of the worst. Prisoners may not have God in their hearts, but many of them have children of their own and they have their own brand of justice for child molesters. The father also needs to be tossed in alongside his son and pray to live through a week, if that. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna heave. I read the first link and it made me ill.

I can believe the parents didn't know what was going on until they were told. Michelle makes Steppford Wives look bold, independent and fierce. She doesn't speak without looking to dear ol' Jim Bob first. And it's "What do you think, Daddy?" "So, Daddy---" and he is so busy being a pontificating asshat, I don't think he even knows how many kids he actually has.

Any chance Josh was just repeating abuse ol' Jim Bob doled out?

Very possible. The problem with situations like this is that the true story will never really come out. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar seem to think it was nothing serious and a stern talking-too and hard labor was the best way to deal with it. Never mind the physical and mental abuse of their daughters.

It's a warped reality from the start. Who knows where or what started it.

The harsh truth is that it wasn't dealt with properly at the start - hard labor and a "talking to" by a cop who was later convicted of having child porn on his computer is in no way appropriate for the situation.

:(

Those poor girls. I hope they break away and sue their parents for every cent they got from that show.

I'm thinking something must have happened to bring the issue to the fore (since I can't see the parents or their son voluntarily confessing in public, no matter what sanctimonious wash they want to put on their doing so now). Maybe one of the daughters told someone about it, and that person was willing to speak out or help the daughter tell her story. I hope so :(.

According to the article in Link 3 In Touch magazine obtained a copy of the report and the Duggars decided to come out before the magazine did.

Another article said that In Touch had a source who borrowed a book from a member of the wider family that had a letter inside it that mentioned what happened.
