Software engineer, here. Dear old Dad was the electrical engineer, got his degree from University of Michigan.
You'd think I'd be able to provide guidance, but no. The rules don't apply anymore, as there is very little work available here in the USA even for software engineering. We've outsourced most of that to countries for a pittance, leaving the rest of us holding an empty bag. I have no idea what the job prospects are for electrical engineers, but one might assume they would be many?
