My best tip from experience is to invite each guest *personally*, as opposed to using a newsletterish or "dear all" invitation. It's a lot of work, but well worth it.

Also, send a first invitation far enough in advance to get into busy people's mental calendars early. Then, a week or so before, send a "looking forward to seeing you" follow up (repeating all the relevant info) to everyone who didn't specifically RSVP that they can't make it.

Oops, I misunderstood the title of your thread to mean book launch *party*. I couldn't read the link at the time. Now I see that you meant launch as in "release out into the world"--a whole different thing, though a party can be a small part of it. Apologies, Lance, for responding in a wrong direction! (I love discussing parties :)

I thought the article was interesting in that it had both self-published and trade-published points of view. Wishing great launches for all of us!
