In Cambridge, MA, the DPW will have to replace a lot of sidewalk slabs after winter storm damage. The replacement slabs will have residents' poems embedded in them (http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2015/03/23/sidewalks/IsZTWrgk69SHITaSxl4akK/story.html).

Barry said because most people are looking down at their smartphones as they walk, the poems will have high visibility.

I think that's the inspiration behind the new fountain in Harvard Square.

I pictured block after block of sidewalk chalk poems, colorful words sticking to the bottom of people's shoes or melting into rainbow stream-lets in rain-flooded gutters . . . but this is good too! Thanks for the link!

Must be some classy alleyways you hang out in what have sidewalks.

I love Harvard Square. Back in the 1980s, I was a street performer. In summer I lived for Friday and Saturday nights juggling on the island at Brattle and Mt. Auburn Streets. Seems like a hundred years ago...
