I still don't get why. Is it payback for years of being confused with Austria, or is it about that Abba craze back then?

Yes but Abba was mystifyingly huge in Australia in the 1970s, and the country's had intermittent outbreaks of Europop fever ever since, hence the popularity of Eurovision down here.

Well, it turns out that Guy Sebastian will be representing us at Eurovision. Not who I would have chosen, but no one consulted me, the bastards, and he's a safe choice.
