There's a discussion going on at http://absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29987 I'd like your input on; if and when you have time.

The reason: I'm concerned about what particular "flags" an editor may look for in a query letter. For example, if an editor notices that a particular letter doesn't adhere to exacting grammar rules; will it end up in file 13?

Thanks.

Hi Elwyn,
I put in my opinion on that thread. The bottom line: just write simply and personably when you query. General grammar rules are important, but if you have an entire thread unsure of what is correct and what isn't, chances are most acquisitions editors aren't going to be sure, either.

But I thought query letters were supposed to be like business letters. Guess not!

Well, you're selling your book idea. If your book idea is about business, then go for it. But if you're trying to interest an editor in a fantastic fantasy story you've written for tweens, why would you write it like you're applying for a mortgage?
