Well, for the past six months, I've been sending out query letters like crazy, trying to get an agent for my adult thriller. No dice. I was completely down-on-my-luck, ready to throw in the towel.

Then, my critique partner (much to my shock) sent a rough draft of my new novel to her agent (who is, incidentally, my dream agent).

All of the sudden, I have a fantastic agent! It's been a complete whirlwind.

Talk about right place, right time. Yes, I guess there is talent involved...but also, sometimes, a lot of luck. Especially in my case. :)

congratulations! That is wonderful news! Hope to soon hear your book has sold!
Best of luck! (and it isn't all luck, there is talent involved too. Don't sell yourself short!)
I haven't even started to query yet. I keep fussing over the ms and won't get on the ball. I should take some of your persistence and put it in my coffee!!!

All right, B. Celebration number one in progress. Here's hoping celebration number two (a sale) is just around the corner.

Congratulations! It always gives me heart when I read of someone's success. Perhaps one day it will be mine. Until then I just believe it will happen. You just have to keep plugging away, sending out your work and hoping to reach the right people.

Way to go! I think it also shows how important it is to get an agent to read the novel itself, rather than just a query letter.

Thanks, everybody! I've lurked a lot on this board and gleaned a lot of great advice, so I owe this success not only to my critique partner, but to all of you, too.

What else to say, but fantastic! Hope the next phase of the process goes as smoothly as one may dare wish. (Probably unwise to tempt the publishing gods and all.) Enjoy the triumph!

Talk about serendipity!!! How incredible for you. Congrats!!! And don't sell yourself short. Your critique partner wouldn't have sent it if they didn't think you had talent and the story had merit!
