I'm 40k into the sequel for The Sad Girl. Things are progressing fairly nicely. Looks like I'll come in around 60k, for a long novella rather than a full novel.

And I just found out that the (dead) antagonist has a daughter I didn't know about. Pretty much anything I do with her will have a huge effect on the overall story.

On the one hand, I could extend this book nicely, and easily up in the upper 80s. But I'll have to replot things drastically.

On the other hand, I could finish the sequel, then plot out a 3rd book/2d novella. Less replotting. But two short books.

Erg.

How many words was the first book? Because if the first one was novella-ish length, then I'd go with 3 shorter books. If the first one was novel-ish length, then I'd go with 2 longer books.

Just my 2c. :)

Then I'd go with the option of adding extra material to this one, just to keep readers happy.

Of course, I'm no expert in such matters, but this is just my opinion.
