Poetry Posting Gig?

MarquessDeScrib

Hi there I was hoping someone could help answer a question or two I have here.....

my question is are there any other writing communities/message boards sites where big important macha publishing agents/editors visit these sites and scoop up unknown little talents out and help them out with their writing careers. I would like my writing hobby to possibly go part time if possible and all the literature and sites and books that I have read haven’t even lead me down that path yet. I was told to venture to a site called Article Distribution Services but I ended up on a site called www.phantomwriters.com am I on the right website and do I have to pay for my poems to be seen on Article Distribution Services website.....

Are there any other wesbites/messageboards other than Article Distribution Services that I can post my work on....
Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

You can get everything you want right here. In the "Writing Novels" section of AW, look for anything under "Uncle Jim." It's a fantastic and free writing tool. I would never recommend paying to have your work looked at. Also check the "Writer Beware" site here. There are many blogs where you can get your work out and they are free too. Again read "Blogging" here under "the Rest" section to get tips on how to use your blog to be seen and a lot of writers make money with their blogs. Good luck!

Marguess,

PhantomWriter's.com is "Article Distribution Services" because that is one of the services that they provide, (distributing an author's "Articles" or "other works" to "markets" for a fee). They do many other things besides that.

In point of fact, they are nothing but a "Clearinghouse" for groups and organizations whose purpose is to exploit "would-be" writers of any kind. They DO offer Classes, Workshops and "Vanity" publishing outlets, (as well as any other "service" they can "manuafacture" a need for), but only those who charge premium prices and give little of no help or guidance either in perfecting one's craft or achieving Marketable publication.

The truth is that the best way to perfect one's craft is by reading the Masters, writing and submitting to "legitimate" markets, learning from your mistakes, and perservering.

For poets, The BEST source for finding "Viable" Markets is Writer's Digest yearly "Poet's Market" (They also compile yearly Market listings for Writing, Songwriting, Artiists, and Photographers), but there are also a number of valid sources on line as well at places like:
http://www.drowningman.net/poetrylinks.htm
http://www.writerswrite.com/poetry/markets.htm
and
http://webpages.charter.net/poppoets/markets.htm
as well as The New Formalist at: http://www.newformalist.com/ and Expansive Poetry And Music at:
http://www.n2hos.com/acm/
Both of which offer links to other markets, as well as examples of quality Poetry, (both from the past and present), in addition to being markets themselves.

Markets for writing other than Poetry should be easily acceessible by searching for such on YAHOO, Google or any good search engine.

As for places a poet can hone one's skills, this is as good a place as any, although there are many out there like http://sharepoetry.com/ http://allpoetry.com/ and www.shadowpoetry.com (which requires a membership for posting but is otherwise accessible.

Quality Poetry, that can be used as a guideline can be found at:
The Academy of American Poets (http://www.poets.org/page.php/prmID/2 )
and "The Hypertexts" at: http://www.thehypertexts.com/

As for techniques, pitfalls or general information about writing in general, "Paint" is correct. You can't do much better than the "Writing Novels" section or any of the many other quality Forums on this site.

Good luck in your endeavors.
