a "where to pitch" question

Hi, Nancy,
This type of piece sounds like it might be good for a general audience. (Unless it is written specifically for women, that is.)
As such, and since you do have the expert background, I'd try pitching general interest magazines along with the women's. Other strong contenders: Local and regional magazines that use service pieces, heck, I'd even take a shot at pitching some of the larger newspapers. While the newspapers don't pay as much, you can remarket the piece to literally hundreds of places as long as their readership doesn't overlap.
